Deep Trash Romance is for artworks, performances, and videos to be shown on Saturday 10 February 2018 at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. CUNTemporary are keen to hear from writers, artists, and academics responding to the call either in written form (theory and cross-genre) or through performative lectures. Submissions will be presented during the symposium Love, Pain, & Intimacy in Live Art. This will be hosted by the Department of Drama at Queen Mary University on Thursday 8 February 2018, with a keynote talk by Dr. Dominic Johnson. The headline guest artist for the live art night will be Nicola Hunter.

Performances and lectures will be awarded with a flat fee which should include travel costs. The fee ranges from £70-£150 which will depend on the overall project budget and number of people involved. CUNTemporary does not cover the costs of exhibiting artworks or videos. About Deep Trash Romance

During a time when public and private spaces are narrowing their ability to accommodate the concerns and lives of non-normative and non-binary subjects, events such as Deep Trash are crucial in bringing together a community of people interested in the themes of sexuality, gender, creativity, and politics with an intersectional and transnational approach. Deep Trash:

  • Is the only regular exhibition-cum-performance-club-night promoting queer and feminist arts from all disciplines taking place in London.
  • Remains a fundraiser night for the activities of CUNTemporary and Archivio Queer Italia.
  • Launches a specific open call before each event for a fairer artistic participation and selection. The works and artists accepted will be consistent with the intersections of feminist-queer practice.
  • Adopts an inclusive political stance with zero tolerance for discrimination of any sort.
  • Aims at showcasing the work of both emerging and established practitioners in order to create an intersectional, intergenerational, and transcultural dialogue.
  • Is especially committed to promoting performance art in order to encourage and strengthen research within current artistic discourses.
  • Provides a safe space where works of a difficult and challenging nature can be presented, documented, discussed, enjoyed, and reviewed.
  • Understands sex as an inextricable part of what we do, who we are, and where we come from. CUNTemporary supports art and politics which are organized around sex. This includes the deprivatization of sex, decriminalization of sex work, visible non-normative sexualities and non-binary gender identities, end of sexual violence, and promotion of consensual sexual practices.
  • Insists that we need more safe and inclusive spaces where people can come together to create, share, experience, discuss, affect, flirt, stimulate, challenge and, most important, empower.
