AD Art Show (New York, NY) – Call For Artists

AD Art Show (New York, NY) – Call For Artists

[Sponsored Listing] MvVO ART is turning the Oculus in NYC into an art destination and want you to submit your art for the AD Art Show. After a successful launch at Sotheby’s in NYC in 2018, MvVO is returning to the Oculus for a third time. Your art will be displayed on the monumental screens inside the Oculus. No need to send physical art – just 300 dpi images. Submit your art rather than commercial work. A jury will select the artists and winner.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline extended: 21 Mar 2021 – Applicant eligibility now includes those who work in advertising or marketing OR have a background as a commercial artist

MvVO ART creates opportunities for artists to get more exposure. Many artists have day jobs. They do not always have time to pursue opportunities even though they create art and are very talented. Through the AD art show, artists meet each other and feel they are part of a caring community.

MvVO ART created the AD Art Show to showcase artists who are not typically seen by the art world. MvVO ART bridges the gap of the art and ad work by bringing together very respected art professionals and collectors to review art. The Oculus is a landmark in NYC. The show is open to the public all of May.

Artists are featured in MvVO’s Artsy gallery. Artists are promoted after the show is over if they have interesting news. MvVO does not charge a commission on sales. The winner is honored with a Specialty Clio in Contemporary Art.

About MvVO Art

MvVO ART is an innovative art venture founded by Maria van Vlodrop, who has brought together art experts and a team of advertising, marketing, media, branding, communications, and technology professionals to create opportunities for artists. Together, this dynamic team brings a fresh perspective to the emerging art scene in New York City. MvVO ART aims to bring art and commerce together where brands align with art and emerging artists to create powerful partnerships and unique experiences.

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

[Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Abstract, an online photography competition. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms, and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 7 Mar 2021

The early days of photography centered on true to life imagery, i.e. family portraits, images of streets, towns, and mansions. Over time, photographers expanded their vision to more moody images, ultimately to where photography is today – an all encompassing art form generated by camera and lens and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts.

This call is about the abstracts – those images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, and so forth. It doesn’t matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations, or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it. They all work. As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

The prizes total $3000 and have a grand prize, 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes – 20 juror’s selections and 20 honorable mentions. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. The call is open to any photographers worldwide and of any age, amateurs or professional. A professional photographer, gallery owner, or photography teacher is the juror.

About New York Center for Photographic Art

Saltonstall Residency Program (Ithaca, NY) – Call For Artists

Saltonstall Residency Program (Ithaca, NY) – Call For Artists

The Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts announces a call for artists for their 2021 Saltonstall Residency Program in Ithaca, New York. Each year, the Saltonstall Foundation awards free residencies to artists and writers who are residents of New York State and Indian Nations therein. They support artists and writers working in the following disciplines: Poetry; Fiction and Creative Nonfiction; Photography and Filmmaking; and Painting, Sculpture, and Visual Arts.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 23 Jan 2021

All applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and must be residents of New York State or Indian Nations therein ** (all counties). Residencies are for individual artists and writers. Saltonstall is unable to accommodate groups or pairs of people working together.

New in 2021: Accessibility space for an artist or writer! Saltonstall is currently building an accessible addition. It includes a private accessible living space with a roll-in shower, private accessible studio (for a visual artist or writer), shared accessible kitchen and dining area, accessible laundry facilities, and adjoining private suite for a personal care assistant if needed.

COVID, the unwanted guest

Saltonstall is under no illusions: The coronavirus will be with us — in some way — through next summer. They are planning a 2021 residency season because they believe they can offer a safe residency experience in a way that is responsible and responsive to the needs of artists and writers while protecting their health and that of the staff and local community.

2021 Saltonstall Residency Program Dates

Second annual six-night residency for artist/writer parents:

Thursday, June 3 – Wednesday, June 9. Please note: this residency is strictly for artist/writer parents who have at least one dependent child (under 18) at home.

Four-week residencies:

  • Monday, June 14 – Monday, July 12
  • Monday, July 19 – Monday, August 16
  • Monday, August 23 – Monday, September 20

Two-week residencies:

  • Monday, September 27 – Monday, October 11
  • Saturday, October 16 – Saturday, October 30

Residencies provide artists time and private space to do their work without interruption. During one month at Saltonstall, residents are often able to complete at least 3-4 months worth of work. The shorter, two-week residencies have an identical effect. There are minimal chores, and restricted visitor hours ~ all of which allows for maximum focus on the artists work.

There is no cost to attend Saltonstall and no application fee associated with this application. Additionally, to help offset travel to Ithaca and other personal expenses, they have increased their stipends to $750 for each month-long Fellow, $375 for each two-week Fellow, and $200 for each artist/writer attending the six-night residency for parents.

About Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts

Saltonstall is situated in a beautiful and inspiring setting of fields and wooded hills, approximately eight miles from downtown Ithaca.

A Saltonstall residency is a small community. They strive to provide a quiet, inviting, respectful, and nurturing community for creative individuals looking for uninterrupted time to focus on their craft. Each residency is comprised of just five individuals: one poet, one writer, one photographer or filmmaker, and two visual artists.

Saltonstall believes in and values a diverse community of creative individuals. To that end, they hope that all artists and writers feel welcome to apply for a residency, regardless of one’s level of education, experience, race, age, sex, religious belief, marital status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or national origin.

Street Photography (New York City, NY) – Call For Artists

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Street Photography. As did Cartier-Bresson, Frank, Meyerowitz, Arbus, Evans, and the list of accomplished street photographers goes on. The examples are too numerous and varied to list. All 2D photography is welcome.

The exhibition will be installed in the gallery and posted online if Opalka is not able to open to the public or if viewing is limited.

Through Infinite Uncertainty, Opalka Gallery is interested in representing the full range of artistic response to our current moment: new projects instigated, old ones revisited, creative bursts, and detours in your practice. Deadline: 13 Jul 2020

Infinite Uncertainty is open to all artists of all media to participate in a group exhibition. For this call, the gallery defines regional as anyone living or working within a 100 mile radius from Albany, New York.

Participating artists are encouraged to submit proposals for performances and events (most likely virtual) such as artist lectures, panel discussions, and virtual studio visits in September and October. Concurrently, artist Daesha Devón Harris will use collected images and writing from hundreds of Capital Region residents to create a site-specific community portrait at Opalka Gallery that provides insight into what this moment in time has meant for the community.

Artists selected will receive a $200 exhibition stipend. The gallery will cover costs of shipping or pick up and delivery. The work chosen for the exhibition will be available for sale, with 60% of the sale price directly benefiting the artist.

Juror Bios

The Infinite Uncertainty exhibition will be juried by regional artists and curators Sharon Bates, Stacey Robinson, Ellen Letcher, and Julie Torres as well as Opalka Gallery staff, Judie Gilmore and Amy Griffin.

Sharon Bates is a visual artist, an independent curator, and the Founding Director of the Albany International Airport Art & Culture Program, which has become a national model for public art. As an artist, Bates has exhibited site-specific installations and mixed media work in Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; and throughout the Northeast. He was a 2019-2020 Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellow at the Hutchins Center for African & African-American Research, at Harvard University where he researched hip-hop’s multimodal performance practice as activism. His multimedia work discusses ideas of “Black Utopias” as decolonized spaces of peace by considering Black affluent, self-sustaining communities, Black protest movements, and the arts that document(ed) them.

Artists and partners Ellen Letcher and Julie Torres have been curating independently and together for the past 10 years. They met in 2010 at Famous Accountants, the Ridgewood NY gallery that Letcher co-founded in 2009, and moved together to Hudson NY in 2016. They enjoy collaborating as both artists and curators, as well as making their own work and organizing their own projects. In 2018, Letcher and Torres took the reins at LABspace gallery in Hillsdale NY, founded by artist Susan Jennings.

They are deeply engaged in the Hudson Valley, Berkshire, Capital Region, and greater NY art communities by connecting artists at LABspace, attending area exhibitions and studios, exhibiting their own artwork, and guest-curating in other spaces. Their projects have been featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Huffington Post, Hyperallergic, Brooklyn Rail, Chronogram and Two Coats of Paint. Their current show, Space Case at LABspace, features artists who run exhibition spaces throughout VA, NC and TN. They welcome safe, masked visits by appointment.

About Mills Pond Gallery

Smithtown Township Arts Council operates Mills Pond Gallery in an historic Greek Revival building built in 1838. Adaptation of Mills Pond House for public use has introduced modern mechanical systems to the structure without impairing its historic integrity. Gallery lighting and handicapped access have been designed to complement the original building. Notable among the ca. 1838 Grecian details are the gold-veined marble mantelpieces, ornamental plater “centres” applied to the ceilings, and front and rear stoops supported by wooden Doric columns.

Mills Pond house preserves the locality’s name, but departs from tradition in other respects. Its high-style Grecian design is unusual on Long Island. The hand of an accomplished architect is nearly unique at this early date. Pollard’s influence is seen in the use of imported materials: Albany boards, Carolina yellow pine, English glass, Connecticut stone, and Santo Domingan mahogany. The silvered hardware, decorative plaster, and carpeting were bought in New York City shops. William Wickham Mills died in 1865. His home descended in the family until its gift to the Town of Smithtown in 1976. Today, it is preserved for use as an arts-related facility.
