#BlackLivesMatter Exhibit – Call for Artists

The Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio is currently accepting visual arts submissions for its inaugural curated gallery exhibit: #BlackLivesMatter. The theme reflects the resilience of people of African descent throughout the Diaspora.

Call for artists application

Deadline: 14 Jun 2015

ACAS is seeking visual artists (photography, sculpture, and 2D) for our #BlackLivesMatter exhibit. There is no residency requirement and artists may choose any materials within the genre of photography, sculpture, and 2D art. Artists must be able to deliver and pick up their own art on the scheduled dates. Emerging artists living east of the Anacostia River and those representing marginalized groups are encouraged to apply. All work must be original and on point to the theme. All ages are welcomed, and artists under 18 must have a signed waiver from their parentguardian.

Artists will submit via email (1) a 2-3 sentence bio, (2) a half page artist statement, (3) two high resolution images of each piece of artwork proposed for the exhibit (one full length, one close up), and (4) an image list that includes the title, dimensions, medium/materials, and description of each piece to adinkracas@gmail.com. Electronic submissions only. No more than 5 pieces per artist.

  • Artists notified – June 20, 2015
  • Artwork delivered – June 29, 2015
  • Opening Reception – July 2, 2015
  • Pick up artwork – August 1, 2015

As the sole public art gallery in Mount Rainier, our attendance has been just at capacity for each show. Artists will have a large crowd and local media coverage as well as an opportunity to sell their work to prominent community leaders. Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio promotes artists who are dynamic and unafraid to explore controversial topics.

Adinkra Cultural Arts Studio is part of a larger grassroots art movement in the area. We believe strongly in the importance of knowledge and giving back. Our dance studio and art gallery are manifestations of the positive, self determined energy we appreciate.
