Downtown Clayton Sculpture Trail – Call for Artists
The Town of Clayton Public Art Advisory Board invites you to submit an application to participate in its annual Downtown Clayton Sculpture Trail public art exhibition.
Deadline: 4 Mar 2016
The Downtown Clayton Sculpture Trail is a temporary outdoor exhibit displayed at eight publicly-owned sites from May 2016 to May 2017. This call to artists provides an opportunity for artists to submit completed artwork for consideration. A selection panel will choose a number of original sculptures to be displayed in public and/or private locations throughout town. The artist retains ownership of their work and agrees to lend it to the exhibition. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 honorarium for lending the work for the twelve-month period. In addition, the board will determine the mechanism to select a “People’s Choice” winner with an award of $1,000.
- There is no application fee
- The Town of Clayton may purchase an entry at the conclusion of the exhibition for permanent placement
- The $1,000 honorarium will be credited against the purchase price for the artwork selected
- If the artist also wins the People’s Choice award, that $1,000 award will also be credited against the purchase price for the artwork selected
- The Town of Clayton reserves the right to photograph and reproduce images of the artwork on exhibition for promotional and educational purposes
Wonderful exposure in Downtown Clayton – a destination where people, business, and the arts thrive in our rapidly growing community and is a North Carolina Main Street® community. Founded in 1869, long-time and new residents alike are rediscovering many of the historical and architecturally significant buildings and neighborhoods that add charm and character to downtown.
Festivals and special events such as Town Square Concert Series, Millstock Art & Music Festival (now the Mondo Roots Cultural Arts & Music Festival), Clayton Harvest & Music Festival, Halloween Parade, Christmas Tree Lighting, and others draw visitors and residents alike to Downtown.
Downtown Clayton is accessible with I-40 and I-95 just minutes away. It’s just twenty minutes from Downtown Raleigh, the state capital, and about a thirty minute drive from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Sites for the Downtown Clayton sculpture trail include Town Square, Horne Square, The Clayton Center, Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library, and many other popular and well-traveled locations in Downtown Clayton and beyond. The Town reserves the right to designate the exhibition location of the selected artwork.
Art enhances our Town, community, and downtown experience. Our Town leaders are hugely supportive and this annual sculpture trail continues to be wildly popular. In an effort to establish a collection of artistic works for the benefit of the community and the betterment of public spaces and facilities, the Clayton Town Council established the Public Art Advisory Board on February 4, 2008. The purpose of the Public Art Advisory Board is to establish a procedure through which the Town of Clayton can acquire and accept artwork on loan or as a gift and make recommendations to the Town Council toward the creation of a Public Art Program.
