The mission of the Lubeznik Art and Artisan Festival 2017 (LAAF) is to celebrate and foster the appreciation of a dynamic array of contemporary artists and artisans through the exhibition and sale of contemporary art in a festival setting. Now in its 36th year, Lubeznik Center for the Arts’ (LCA) LAAF attracts thousands of shoppers and art enthusiasts to Michigan City’s North End. Held on the third weekend in August, this festival features contemporary art, artist activations, beer, wine, and food. It draws repeat visitors from Chicago, South Bend, and Northwest Indiana as well as Michigan’s nearby Harbor Country communities. Patrons to the festival include second home-owners in the nearby beach communities.
Award categories ($3000 in cash awards):
- Best in Show
- 1st Place Artist
- 1st Place Artisan
- Neil Kienitz Award for Representational Art
- Juror’s Awards (2)
The festival is held on the LCA grounds in order to immerse festival-goers in the LCA experience and help visitors connect with our mission more effectively. The festival is overseen by arts professionals with friendly and helpful staff and volunteers who are committed to making it a success. The budget to market the event through partnerships that span radio, TV, print, and outdoor media is over $30,000. All proceeds from LAAF are invested back into the Michigan City Community through artistic and educational programs LCA provides year-round.
