Deadline: 15 Dec 2017

The artwork should reflect the inclusive and diverse population of the City of Roanoke. The project is funded through a one-time allocation that recognizes the tenth year of the City of Roanoke’s formal Percent for Art Program. This project is open to all artists and artist teams, age 18 and over, who are residents of the United States. All applicants, regardless of race, sex, religion, nationality, origin, or disability will be considered.

Up to three finalists may be chosen from the applicants to submit a final Request for Proposal. Those finalists will receive a $1,000 honorarium after their proposals are submitted if they are not chosen to construct the art. The contracted artist award is up to $45,000. The downtown gateway art will be one of the first things viewed when driers exit I-581 to come into downtown. The City will arrange publicity and PR for the chosen artist. There will be opportunities to meet local artists, city staff, and members of the Roanoke Arts Commission. The artwork will join approximately 150 pieces in the collection of the City of Roanoke and will be featured on the website.
