Art Speaks On The Bay 2018 – Call For Artists
The Bay School Community Arts Center announces a call for artists for the Art Speaks On The Bay 2018 6th annual juried art show, an all media juried fine art show for Virginia artists. The show will open April 28th with a reception and will run through May 29.

The Art Speaks On The Bay 2018 show is open to all Virginia artists. All 2D and 3D media are welcome. Work may be functional but not wearable. The entry fee is $35 for three entries. Approximately 85 artists will be selected for the exhibition. Accepted artists will be notified by email by mid-March. Artwork will be judged for awards in person the day of the show opening.
Joe Seipel, an American sculptor and conceptual artist, will be the show’s juror. Professor Emeritus in sculpture and prior Dean of VCU’s School of the Arts, Seipel served on the VCU faculty for over 40 years and was named Outstanding Sculpture Educator by the International Sculpture Conference in 2001. During his tenure as Dean, VCU gained recognition as the number-one public university graduate arts program in the country. Seipel was a founding board member and first President of the 1708 Gallery in Richmond. He has exhibited his work in numerous invitational group shows in Richmond, Milan, Italy, New York City, Washington DC, and Norfolk, VA.
Art Speaks On The Bay 2018 Artist Benefits
Artists who enter this year’s show are eligible for a 25% discount on an advertisement in the show’s program. Copies of the program will be distributed to attendees at the show and art galleries throughout the state. The Bay School has a courier service to deliver and return selected artwork throughout the state. Prizes will total $5,000 with $1,500 for Best in Show. Additional prizes include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in 2-D and 3-D media; three prizes awarded by guest curators; and five honorable mentions. All selected artwork is printed in a full-color exhibition program. The artwork will be featured and marketed on the Bay School website for one year. Additional exhibition opportunities in the Bay School’s Art Speaks Gallery are available including special exhibitions and becoming part of the gallery’s regular rotation. Artists who teach in their medium will have opportunities to offer classes at the Bay School.
