Deadline: 28 Apr 2018

Participating artists are asked to create an original piece of artwork that is related to science in some aspect. Examples include a new artistic technique in relation to a scientific study or theory, the use of non-traditional materials in the creation of a piece, or the exploration of a scientific notion in the process of making. The goal should be a pursuit of new concepts and technologies within science and art together which change fundamentally how we perceive our experience and/or reality.

There is no age restriction. Applicants under 18 years old will need a parent or guardian’s consent. The jurors for this exhibit come from a wide variety of backgrounds in both art and science to encourage diversity in selections.

Techne Awards

  • First Place: $250 and a solo show at Arthaus Projects in 2019
  • Second Place: $150
  • Third Place: $75

Selected artists will be showcased in one of Williamsport’s most forward looking galleries.

About Arthaus Projects

This year, 2018, marks the inaugural year of Arthaus Projects. They are a new, non-profit artspace developed by the founder of Converge Gallery. It is inspired by the Staatliches Bauhaus (commonly known as Bauhaus), a German art school that famously combined crafts and fine arts teaching with an emphasis on design. Arthaus Projects makes fine, contemporary art accessible to the local community. They provide community education through exhibitions, colloquia, and collaborative projects. Arthaus Projects takes a project-based approach to our exhibitions. They combine interactive exhibits such as artist talks and live demonstrations with traditional gallery installations. As a community resource, Arthaus Projects provides greater career opportunities in the arts for students and artists. They promote innovative, contemporary ideas by providing both a venue for displaying art and through auxiliary activities such as artist’s talks and workshops.
