Newton Free Library Exhibitions (Newton, MA) – Call For Artists
[Sponsored Listing] The Newton Free Library announces a call for artists. They mount twenty-three exhibits per year in their two exhibit spaces (Gallery and Main Hall). As one of the busiest public library buildings in Massachusetts, these galleries are highly sought after and well-loved by library patrons.
A jury of professional artists meets twice each year to select shows for the following year. Proposals are currently being accepted for April – December 2022 exhibit slots.
Deadline: 10 Dec 2021
Eligibility: Two dimensional works by New England regional artists. Unable to offer shows for free-standing sculptural pieces.
Given that free gallery space is difficult to come by in Newton, it is a boon for artists that, if selected, they show here fee-free. No commission for work sold. Many artists have success in selling their work. Library patrons are tuned keenly into the gallery spaces – visiting and spending time appreciating the works shown. The library does an extensive amount of outreach to help promote artists’ work. They have a robust social media presence.
“I’ve had the privilege and honor of showing my work at the Newton Free Library four times in the past 10 years. Because of its exceptionally high patronage, sales have always been robust in this free exhibit space. Great care is taken in the organizing of these shows and the library provides an excellent Walker hanging system making installation a breeze.
As an award winning, gallery represented, Copley Master artist, this is one of my favorite venues in terms of sales, exposure, and enthusiasm of the visiting patrons. I highly recommend this venue for any visual artist.” – Barney Levitt, Fine Art Painter
