My work is mostly representational, and I am spellbound by the face and figure. There’s real truth to the saying, “the eyes are a window to the soul.” My work in mosaic unites my years as a painter and potter. I begin with a study in light and dark, then develop a painting from that drawing. Finally I create the image in stained glass mosaic, adding millefiori, handmade pottery, handmade glass beads, and other discoveries. As the mosaic takes shape, I lose track of time. I’m continuously learning and assessing my design, my choice of tesserae, and my non-traditional andamento. I create from my heart and allow my natural instincts to direct the journey. I find myself being pulled to develop a piece that is vibrant with color and texture—one that I hope will delight the viewer.

I create a value drawing, then pain, then cut each individual piece of stained glass by hand with a nipper.
