Paul Spencer is a lamp worker and glass bead maker who lives and works in Corning NY and Philadelphia Pa. He has studied extensively at The Studios of Corning Museum of Glass. Paul began his artistic career as a color field painter looking to expand the boundaries of light and color. For Paul , glass working was the perfect medium for his expression of color, it was like “painting with fire.†Together with NY fashion designer, Lawrence Kurtz, Paul designs and creates unique jewelry that accentuates the rhythmic beauty of glass. Paul also teaches glass bead making at his studio and at various art centers including the Delaware Museum of Art.
Currently Paul is working on a series called "Haiku" which
are Asian inspired large glass pendants. These often include precious metals like gold and palladium which are fused onto the glass. Other project like the "Afrikan" series also involve metals and the reactions of metal and glass that form brilliant colors.
