Artist Certification - Side Arts

Artist Certification

Always check Side Arts first! Our goal is to help lower the costs of applying to calls for artists.

Most visual artists apply for 10-15 opportunities per year. The average cost per application is between $25-45.

If you are a certified artist and selected for a call for artists promoted by Side Arts, then we will refund the cost of the certification application AND the call’s application fees.

How It Works

1. Get Certified

The Artist Certification is valid for a period of 12 months. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants should hear back no more than two weeks after applying. If not accepted, artists will be informed why with an opportunity to appeal. If the appeal is denied, half of the application fee will be refunded.

Certification requires that you:

  • Are at least 18 years of age.
  • Show a recent body of recent work. Resume or CV gives evidence of artistic work over the past three years.
  • Provide evidence of usage of social media and/or email marketing for your artwork within the last year.

2. Apply for opportunities

  • Apply to calls for artists listed on Side Arts – access to listings is always free.
  • Each client promoting a call for artists is sent a list of certified artists endorsed by Side Arts.
  • (BONUS) Side Arts will promote certified artists on Instagram.
  • (BONUS) Receive a free $10 eGift card from Jerry’s Artarama

3. Artists selected for calls receive a refund

If a certified artist is selected for a call for artists promoted on Side Arts, then Side Arts will REFUND 100% of the:

  • Side Arts certification application fee, and
  • Call for artists application fee (for the opportunity they were selected, limit one refund per 12 month cycle).

Application fee only (booth, vendor, and residency fees not included as well as opportunities which accept all applicants). Notify Side Arts if selected for an opportunity at Refund pending confirmation by the client within 60 days.

Upon expiration, reapply to renew your certification. Commercial artists, who work for companies rather than themselves, are required to provide examples of their personal art.
