Worth A Thousand Words – Call For Artists

The City of Norwalk Parking Authority’s Maritime Garage Gallery is inviting submissions from artists 18 and over for a new exhibit entitled, Worth a Thousand Words. The Gallery is located in the Maritime Parking Garage exhibit space in Norwalk, CT. All mediums accepted. The exhibit will run from January 29 to May 11, 2018.

Every picture tells a story, it can communicate to anyone in the world a complex idea with just a single image, no translation needed. The Maritime Garage Gallery seeks work that captures how the artist would communicate their stories, emotions, concerns, memories, and ideas about life, nature, hope, world events, and humanity into works of art. The exhibit will be curated by Nadia Martinez.

Chosen artists for Worth A Thousand Words will benefit from having their art exhibited in a gallery that is located in a highly trafficked public space. The Maritime Garage is located in historic South Norwalk. The Garage has between 500 and 700 cars going in and out daily, with an average of three passengers. This brings an estimated 1,500 – 2,100 daily impressions to the space. In addition, there will be an opening reception that will be attended by artists, Parking Authority representatives, area politicians, notables, and the public. The Gallery also promotes the opening reception and exhibit in all local media outlets.

About The Maritime Garage Gallery

The Maritime Garage Gallery was founded by the Parking Authority as part of its “Art in Parking Places” initiative. This effort to support art in public spaces includes several permanent public art exhibits in the South Norwalk Railroad Station. The exhibits highlight the city’s maritime tradition and other historical facts about town. These installations were made possible by a grant provided by the Federal Transportation Enhancement Public Art Program. These initiatives are a collaboration of the Norwalk Parking Authority and the Norwalk Arts Commission. The Maritime Garage Gallery is free and open to the public Monday through Friday. The Norwalk parking Authority oversees the management, operation, facilities, and maintenance of over 4,000 on and off-street parking spaces.

Guilford Craft Expo 2018 – Call For Artists

Guilford Art Center announces a call for artists for the Guilford Craft Expo 2018. They are looking for unique, high quality craft work including basketry, clay, glass, leather, metal and non-metal jewelry, wearable and non-wearable fiber, leather, mixed media, metal and wood. Applicants in fine art categories such as photography, painting, printmaking, paper arts, and sculpture are accepted. Any other original artwork not listed will also be accepted in the “other” category.

All work submitted for application must be original and made in North America. It must be created by hand or with the use of appropriate tools, by an individual artist and/or with help from a limited number of assistants/apprentices. Works must be of high quality, be well-designed, and convey artistic originality and vision.

Craft Expo 2018, held on the historic Guilford Green, is one of the top ranked and longest-running craft shows in the Northeast. Located half way between Boston and New York, this landmark outdoor show is held at the height of the shoreline’s summer season. It showcases high-quality works by 180 exhibitors.

About Guilford Art Center

The Guilford Art Center is a non-profit school, shop, and gallery established to nurture and support excellence in the arts. Through classes for adults and children, gallery programs, a shop of contemporary crafts, and special events, the Center fulfills its mission to provide opportunities for the public to participate in the arts, experience their cultural and historical diversity, and appreciate the process and product of creative work. Founded in 1967 (as the Guilford Handcraft Center), the Center evolved from the first Handcraft Expo, held on the Guilford Green in 1957. It currently serves over 2,000 students in classes, presents juried and invitational exhibits of art in the Center’s gallery, and operates a shop of fine, handmade American crafts year-round. 37th Faber Birren Color Show – Call For Artists

Stamford Art Association announces a call for artists for the 37th Faber Birren Color Show.

In 1980, Faber Birren, world renowned color consultant and author of twenty-seven books on color, endowed the Faber Birren Color Award of $1000 for original and creative expression of color. The Faber Birren Color Award Show has grown from a regional exhibit to one of national scope, encouraging artists in all media. This competition is the only artistic event devoted exclusively to the use of color. This year the Stamford Art Association celebrates its 37th year of the Faber Birren National Color Award Show. Wall work and sculpture are accepted. No performance art or 3D should be submitted. Artwork must be framed and wired for hanging.

 

37th Faber Birren Color Show prizes are funded by an original endowment and usually exceed $2,000. This exhibit encourages artists to concentrate only on color. The exhibit attracts over 1,000 visitors and is an extraordinary way to have artwork displayed. It is an international show that allows artists to be judged by a juror with major NYC gallery and museum experience. This is an opportunity to put your art on the wall with artists who have work displayed across the US and in museums. Where else can you show your best colors? This yearly exhibit provides great exposure to artists in an geographical area that has many art collectors.

About Stamford Art Association

Stamford Art Association is the only art organization that offers a juried exhibit where the theme is color only. It honors Faber Birren, a Stamford resident, who was one of the foremost color theorists of his time. His works are part of Yale’s Beineke Rare Books Library. The Stamford Art Association is the oldest art gallery in Stamford. It is unique in accepting artists to display work even if they are not members. The Stamford Art Association has eight exhibits yearly in its Townhouse Gallery. It curates the four exhibits at the gallery at the Ferguson Library in Stamford.

ARTMarket – Call For Artists

Wethersfield Academy for the Arts announces a call for artists for ARTMarket, a one day opportunity to sell your artwork.

Deadline: 22 May 2017

ARTMarket will take place on the same day as the Wethersfield Historical Society’s House Tour on Hartford Avenue, Saturday, June 3rd. There will be good foot traffic from 10 am – 4 pm. Interesting food/drinks available for purchase. The Summer Youth Art Program is on the same day. Tours of the Academy will be given. An art show of instructor and student work will be on display.

Artists can buy a 10′ x 10′ space for $30. Bring your own tent, tables, chairs, and display set-ups. Register early. Space fee will increase in April. Artists handle all their own transactions. Please be self-sufficient on set-up and take-down.

Wethersfield Academy for the Arts wants to have an opportunity for artists to show their artwork in a low key marketplace.  Artists may submit an image of their work for PR purposes. There will be promotion on the  Academy’s social media, website, email blasts, posters, and at local sites.

About Wethersfield Academy for the Arts

The mission of the Wethersfield Academy for the Arts is to provide a classical education in the visual and performing arts through traditional teaching methods and mentoring. Artists refine their talents, develop practical skills, and elevate the general artistic standard. They offer classes, workshops, and youth programs for all ages and levels in figure drawing, Bargue drawing, portrait drawing, and painting. Artists are invited from across the country to teach plein air painting, still life techniques, and portraiture with a range of subject focuses. This year, we have George O’Hanlon coming from California to teach a three-day workshop in best practices for artists.

Maritime Garage Gallery Chromatic Exhibit – Call For Artists

The City of Norwalk Parking Authority’s Maritime Garage Gallery is inviting submissions from artists, 18 and over, for the Chromatic exhibit at the Maritime Gallery, located in the Maritime Parking Garage exhibit space in Norwalk, CT.

The exhibit will run from March 7 through June 2, 2017.

The Chromatic exhibit will feature art that represents music – tones paired with visions of grandeur. The Gallery is looking for pieces that are the visual crossing of the hearing and sight senses. All music genres are welcome and all mediums except freestanding sculpture will be considered. Clever uses of mediums and interpretations on subject are welcome.

Guest jurors are Jeanine Esposito and Frederic Chiu of Beachwood Arts in Westport, CT.

Chosen artists will benefit from a high level of visibility as the gallery sees 75,000 visits monthly from people who live in the area as well as visitors to this vibrant downtown location. South Norwalk, where the Gallery is located, is a destination hub with dining, shops, and an aquarium. The exhibit is a collaboration of the Norwalk Parking Authority and the Norwalk Arts Commission. Local dignitaries and media will attend the opening reception. In addition, the exhibit will be promoted via the media and online websites.

Maritime Garage Gallery Chromatic Exhibit

The Maritime Garage Gallery is part of the Parking Authority’s Art in Parking Places initiative, an effort to support art in public spaces. The Parking Authority is in charge of municipal parking in the area, but has made it part of its mission to foster collaboration with local artists in its facilities. In addition to the Maritime Garage Gallery, they include a permanent exhibit at the South Norwalk Train Station and various temporary exhibits at other facilities. The gallery is located in a modern space. It is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday and sees a high level of traffic.

Guilford Art Center’s Craft Expo 2017 seeks 180 fine craft artists for its juried show to be held July 14-16, 2017 on the historic Guilford, CT Green.

Works must be hand made in the USA or Canada with the use of appropriate tools, individually, or with help from a limited number of assistants/apprentices. Event is held outdoors, under tents, rain or shine, and attracts 7-8,000 visitors, artists, and collectors.

Artists works will be showcased in a beautiful shoreline setting at the height of the summer season. Returning artists are able to connect with their regular customers each year New artists may establish the groundwork for future collaborations with other artists, find customers for commission work, or find new buyers and collectors for their current work. The Fall Kismet Exhibit will focus on the theme of fate or destiny; the force that is believed to control the future. From relationships to fashion and from the environment to politics, kismet plays a role. Pieces should represent how kismet controls the outcome in the community, the world, or the artists’ life. Clever uses of medium and interpretations on subject are welcome.

This is an opportunity to display art in a public space that sees between 1,500 and 2,100 visitors daily. Opening night reception attended by local art aficionados as well as representatives of local business and government.
