Annual Exhibition (Belfast, UK) – Call For Artists

Founded in 1879, the Royal Ulster Academy of Arts is the largest and longest established body of practicing visual artists in Northern Ireland. One of its founding principles was to hold an annual exhibition of work by both members and non–members of merit. Now in its 138th year, this event remains one of the highlights of the Northern Irish arts calendar. The 138th Annual Exhibition will be on show at the Ulster Museum from 18th October 2019 to 5th January 2020.

Artists selected for this prestigious exhibition can expect to have their work viewed by audiences in excess of 90,000. The Royal Ulster Academy is supported generously by a range of sponsors offering prizes from £500 to £1,000 to artists. The exhibition is a great way for emerging artists to sell their work and gain recognition. Last year, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland bought approximately 20 works from the exhibition. The exhibition is complemented by a range of artist talks, lectures, workshops and interactive activities. A proportion of these activities are available to artist who apply under the open submission.

Cynthia Corbett Gallery announces a call for artists for the Young Masters Art Prize 2019, seeking artists who show originality, skill, and imagination in response to the art of the past.

This renowned, innovative and high-profile Prize recognizes how contemporary artists embrace the art of the past. More recently, the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize was developed to celebrate excellence in contemporary ceramics. Young Masters tours continuously throughout the year. It offers a wider audience the opportunity to engage with the debates between contemporary art and art history.

The Young Masters Art Prize 2019 panel will include critic Godfrey Barker, art historian Jean Wainwright and founder of the Bridgeman Art Library and Managing Director of the Artists’ Collecting Society (ACS), Lady Harriet Bridgeman, CBE.

The judging panel for the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize comprises collector Preston Fitzgerald; ceramics patron Maylis Grand; Director of New Art Centre – Roche Court, Stephen Feeke; the Crafts Council’s Daniella Wells; and founder of Cultural Agenda, Davina Weir-Willats.

The exhibition of shortlisted artists will be held in London from 30 September to 5 October at La Galleria, Pall Mall. The winners will be announced at a prestigious presentation event on 1 October 2019.

The Cynthia Corbett Gallery, an international contemporary art gallery, represents emerging and newly established contemporary artists.
