2017 On-Ice Program – Call for Artists

Art Shanty Projects currently seeks visual artists interested in participating in the design and construction of ice fishing shanty-like structures, producing participatory projects, art, events, and shows for the 2017 On-Ice Program.

Art Shanty Projects supports artists fiscally and logistically with as many resources as available. The current stipend amount for 2017 is $1500 for shanty artists. Grant funding is currently pending which could increase the amount up to 20%.

Project stipends for the 2017 On-Ice Program are intended to offset the costs for materials to build and move the structure as well as time to staff a shanty while the project is open to the public. The organization does not have additional travel stipends to offer out-of-state artists at this time.

2017 On-Ice Program

Art Shanty Projects is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which public spaces can be used as a new and challenging artistic environments to expand notions of art.

For four weekends in February, the 2017 On-Ice Program will transform a frozen lake in Minnesota into a village of ice fishing shanty-like structures designed and built by artists. Outdoor performances, games, and inventive cold-weather activities animate the space for curious locals, regional artists, and visitors from beyond our borders.

The American Craft Council (ACC) announces a call for artists for the American Craft Show.

Artists may produce original work in any of the following categories: basketry, ceramics, clothing and accessories, decorative fiber, furniture and lighting, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media, paper, stone, toys and puzzles, and wood.

We invite you to be part of our talented community of artists, ranging from those just beginning their careers to masters in the craft field. Join us for what promises to be a spectacular season showcasing the highest quality craft in the country.

American Craft Show

The ACC promotes its shows with the help of highly-skilled public relations firms that have a pulse on the local marketplace in each of our show cities. We also work with media buyers that track the latest trends for reaching diverse audiences. We feature our artists’ work on the ACC website, in digital and print ads, via social media, in special show preview sections of American Craft magazine, and onsite via comprehensive show programs and colorful navigational signage.

Open Door is an exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their work at Rosalux Gallery In Minneapolis, MN. Typically, this exhibition is reviewed and receives extensive press coverage and this years juror is Mia Lopez, curatorial fellow at the prestigious Walker Art Center.

Rosalux is a cooperative art gallery that was founded in Minneapolis in 2002. The gallery is home to twenty artists whose work is well known both nationally and internationally, featured in various major collections, and who have individually received numerous prestigious awards and grant recognitions. The gallery is located in the Van Buren Building in the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District.

Sovereign Kitchen and Bar – Call for Artists

Sovereign Kitchen and Bar is seeking artists to display and/or sell their artwork. The space allows for anywhere between 9 – 12 pieces of 2D artwork.

Two public art commission opportunities are available for artists residing in the United States. One is a large interior wall project and the other is an outdoor bike rack project.

Art Shanty Projects is currently seeking artists of all stripes – musicians, composers, media artists, architects, poets, scientists, dancer/choreographers, writers, builders, fisher-people, outdoors-people, naturalists, puppeteers, set designers, vocalists, spoken word artists, craftspeople, storytellers, actors, playwrights – interested in designing and constructing a shanty for the 2016 On-Ice Program.

Art Shanty Project strives to create open artistic interactions between non-artists and artists. There are no application fees or restrictions to encourage creative people of all types to apply.

Art Shanty Projects does its best to support artists fiscally and logistically with as many resources as available. The total stipend amount is grant dependent and will be disclosed prior to the submission deadline once all notifications of pending funds have been announced.

Art Shanty Projects is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which the relatively unregulated public space of a frozen lake can be used as a new and challenging artistic environment to expand notions of what art can be.

For four weekends in February, a frozen lake in Minnesota is transformed into a village of ice fishing shanty-like structures designed and built by artists. Outdoor performances, games, and inventive cold-weather activities animate the shanties for thousands of visitors during the program period.

Art Shanty Projects’ 2016 On-Ice Program will take place on frozen White Bear Lake in White Bear, MN. The project is free and open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays from February 6th-28th, 2016.

For 2016, Art Shanty Projects is offering: 20 artist team stipends (amount TBA), on-ice management, publicity, and shanty-building support.

The Awards of Excellence recognize as many as 18 participating artists every year at the American Craft Council retail shows in Atlanta, Baltimore, St. Paul, and San Francisco. Awarded by a changing roster of jurors selected for their contributions to their area arts communities, the Awards of Excellence are given in recognition of excellence in quality of work or for individual booth design. Past jurors have included curators, practicing artists, and scholars. Awardees receive monetary remuneration of $500 and automatic admission to exhibit at that show in the following show season.

American Craft Council shows reach nearly 50,000 collectors and craft enthusiasts who attend our shows in Baltimore, Atlanta, St. Paul, and San Francisco.

Mantorville Stagecoach Days, explores the life style and pastimes of Mantorville and Southeastern Minnesota from the mid-1800’s until the early 1900’s. Events include historical reenactments, a melodrama, costume contest, live music, tractor pull and our Art Show.

An opportunity to sell to all the visitors to Mantorville for the events during this community wide celebration.

The Mantorville Art Guild – Gallery and Studio, Inc. (MAG) is the only 501(c)(3) non-profit visual arts organization in Dodge County. MAG offers a variety of classes for all ages and abilities.

Mission statement:

  • A co-operative endeavor by area artists to provide a venue for the display and sale of their works
  • Hold classes in the various visual arts represented. Guest artists/ speakers will also be a part of the class offerings.
