Art in the Park 2016 – Call for Artists

Kamloops Arts Council announces a call for artists for the Art in the Park 2016.

It’s the largest arts event in Kamloops and the biggest one-day event of the year. Artists and artisans who wish to show and sell their work at Riverside Park, Art in the Park, on Canada Day 2016 are encouraged to submit their applications.

More than 90 artists and artisans will display handcrafted and original work at the event from painting and pottery to fashion and jewelry.

Art in the Park is organized by the Kamloops Arts Council (KAC) as part of the City of Kamloops Canada Day celebrations at Riverside Park. The full day of arts exhibitions and sales, demos, and performances is free to the public. Approximately 30,000 people attend the event each year.

The Kamloops Arts Council (KAC) is a registered charitable non-profit organization that is devoted to the development and enhancement of the arts in the Kamloops area. We produce high-quality, year-round, low- and no-cost arts programs, arts performances, arts workshops, and arts events that help to connect our local community and promote our local talent.

Indigeneity – Call for Artists

The Human Rights Research and Education Centre at the University of Ottawa invites students and emerging artists to participate in a international exhibition on the theme of Indigeneity.

This exhibition will be part of the first edition of the Summer School on The Arts and Human Rights (AHR) next June 2016. The goal of this course is to explore issues around the Art as a manifestation of human rights and as an instrument for the promotion of human rights. The course is open to students (for credit or not) as well as academics, government employees, NGO and IO staff, indigenous and community representatives, artists, activists, and cultural workers. Each year, the summer school will focus in a particular theme. For the first edition, the theme will be Indigenous Arts and Culture.

Around 20 selected works will be included for the exhibition. Financial aid is available for artworks transportation. Size and weight limitations will be considered for the exhibition. Video art: maximum length of 5 minutes.

The Exhibition will be held from June 20 to September 1, 2016 – Ottawa, Canada. Hosted by the HRREC at the uOttawa.

In recognition of the arts as an integral medium of learning and expression, the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) has launched The Arts and Human Rights Programme (A+HR Programme). The objective of this powerful new initiative is to raise awareness and engage individuals in a multidisciplinary interrogation of human rights issues that is framed through various forms of creative artistic expression such as visual, performance, media, cinematographic, musical, and literary arts.

Painted City Street Art Program for Youth – Call for Artists

The City of Calgary Public Art Program is seeking to commission up to three artists and/or artist teams to participate in the pilot for the Painted City Street Art Program in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary.

The Program is commissioning two different opportunities with three total positions to fill. One artist will be hired as the Painted City Program Lead and will have experience working with youth in a collaborative manner to lead art program planning and implementation. Two artists will be hired as Painted City Lead Artists and will plan interactive design workshops with youth that will result in a large-scale exterior artwork.

The Public Art Program, within the division of Culture, is committed to acquiring great public art that impacts Calgary’s urban landscape and transforms the way Calgarians see, think, and experience the city around them.

West Eau Claire Public Art Pathway Design – Call to Artists

The City of Calgary is seeking a professional artist(s) to develop a design that will be integrated into the pathway system within the Delta Garden in West Eau Claire Park.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a much-loved downtown park space directly adjacent to the Santiago Calatrava Peace Bridge and the Bow River. The successful artist(s) will work with The City’s project team and consultants to develop a design that reflects the goals of West Eau Claire Park and creates a vibrant experience along the pathway system. The artist’s design will be realized using luminescent material embedded into asphalt. The artist will lead materials research and surface design, and oversee installation/implementation of the public artwork.

Castlegar Sculpturewalk is a year-long outdoor exhibition of sculptures, located in Castlegar British Columbia, The Sculpture Capital of Canada™.

The 2016 opening is on May 14th, and we pay up to $500 shipping costs and cover your accommodation. In 2015 we showcased 32 sculptures from international artists. We accept completed sculptures and design proposals.

We offer $25,000 in Awards – the winner of The People’s Choice award (voted via ballot) has their sculpture purchased for up to $15,000, and there is an additional $10K in cash prizes available.

Castlegar is a small town in beautiful British Columbia, yet within just six years Castlegar Sculpturewalk has become one of the premiere arts event in Canada, attracting entries from across the world.

MacDonald Drive Public Art Project – Call for Artists

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo seeks to review qualifications of artist or artist teams who specialize in site specific public art installations.

MacDonald Drive is a site that boasts strong cultural and historical significance and is situated on the edge of both the Athabasca and Snye rivers. Macdonald Drive is also the main artery to allow traffic into Canada’s largest community recreation facility, MacDonald Island Park. This site is highly visible from Fort McMurray’s largest transportation and pedestrian bridge that passes over the Athabasca river connecting downtown Fort McMurray to its urban neighbourhoods. This project is funded by the percent for art reserve fund as per Municipal Public Art Policy (PRL-160).

The MacDonald Drive Project is open to local, national, and international artists.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) intends to commission an artist or artist team to design and install the regions first large scale public art piece that showcases Wood Buffalo’s vibrant culture, rich heritage and natural beauty. Being situated in the Northern Hemisphere, lighting elements are essential in order to exhibit the piece during the dark winter months. In addition to this, artists and artist teams are encouraged to focus on designs that offer community engagement opportunities during the creation and/or fabrication of the design.

Applicants to the MacDonald Island Park Project will be subject to a 3 phase selection process:

  • Phase 1: Request for Qualifications – Artists and artist teams have 3 weeks to submit qualifications for review by a Public Art Selection Panel.
  • Phase 2: Request for Proposals – Three successful applicants will enter into a design competition and will be awarded 4 weeks to submit a proposal for the project.
  • Phase 3: Public Review and Voting – Design proposals will be circulated for public review and voting over 3 weeks. Feedback from the public will be used in the scoring process for the final selection panel evaluation of the proposals.

Total Awarded Budget: $250,000.00 (CAD Inclusive)
