As one of the fundamental aspects of personal identity, gender has been examined by artists throughout history. Society is experiencing the increased politicization of identity expression while contemporary boundaries and norms are constantly shifting. Works selected for this exhibition will provide unique perspectives on individual expression and the definition of gender, both visually and conceptually. These works may include, but are not limited to, ceramics, mixed media sculpture, painting, drawing, performance, video, and graphic design.

About the Susquehanna Art Museum

The Susquehanna Art Museum (SAM) is unique in a number of ways. Located in a historic bank building. With a large contemporary addition, it fuses early 20th century architecture with modern sleek galleries. One of the visitor’s favorite spaces is the converted bank vault which holds intimate solo and group exhibitions. As a non-collecting museum, the exhibitions in all four galleries change numerous times throughout the year. This provides members, visitors, and school tours the opportunity to visit multiple times each season for a new experience. SAM is the capitol city of Pennsylvania’s only dedicated art museum. It has a long history of exhibiting nationally and internationally recognized artists working in all media.
