The Ross Creek Centre for the Arts in Canning, NS, invites submissions for their facilitated Breaking Ground Residencies. Artists who are interested in exploring what it means to work in, on, or from the land and community are welcome to apply.

Artists will take inspiration from the Centre’s 178 acres of varied terrain overlooking the Bay of Fundy. They come together to work as collaborators and on individual projects inspired by the facilitators and the resources of the centre.

• During InterArts week, May 6-12, artists are invited to work with Kay Burns. She is a multidisciplinary artist based on Fogo Island, Newfoundland.
• The Puppetry residency week, May 20-27, brings together artists who want to work with community and everyday objects. They will create larger-than-life puppets to take into the local Apple Blossom Parade. Facilitated by Zach Fraser, an actor and puppet creator from Halifax and Montreal.

While all applicants must be working artists, applications from artists interested in moving from one discipline to another or working in a new way are encouraged.

Successful applicants to the Breaking Ground Residencies will be paid $500 and all food and accommodation.  Artists are responsible for their own travel to Halifax and will be transported from there to Ross Creek if required. All residency programs will have public interactions and will be documented in print and film. This will cumulative with an exhibit online and in the centre’s community gallery in the fall.
