Deadline: 15 Sept 2017

A MacDowell Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for two weeks to two months. There is no cost for the Artist Residencies Winter Spring 2018; however, artists are responsible for materials and travel expenses. In order to open the residency experience to a wider, more diverse community of artists, MacDowell offers two financial assistance programs to those who have been awarded a residency. Through the generosity of several foundations and individuals, need-based stipends are available to artists who would not otherwise be able to afford the time away that a residency requires. Additionally, travel reimbursement grants are available to defray the cost of travel to and from New Hampshire. MacDowell encourages applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics. The sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence.

Artists will benefit from the freedom to create in an inspiring and rural environment away from daily distractions. There is no requirement for our artists to complete a specific work while in residence. Each artists receives their own private studio space in which to pursue their creative projects. Artists have access to a state of the art library 24 hours a day throughout the duration of their stay. Additionally, every participant engages with a diverse community of artists in a variety of disciplines for daily meals and through nightly social activities such readings, films, and presentations of one another’s work.
