Residents are provided with a private efficiency apartment and studio space, located in the Lower Town Arts District of Paducah, Kentucky, six blocks from the Ohio River. The cost of the residency is $700 for two weeks and $1,000 per month.
Accessibility accommodations include an accessible front sidewalk and entrance, accessible studio doorways, and a walker-accessible bathroom with handrails.
A.I.R. Studio Paducah is a residency created to offer a quiet live and work environment to a wide spectrum of creatives. The studio is in walking distance of several area cultural centers, galleries, and performance venues as well as the tranquil banks of the Ohio River. The studio features a storefront multi-purpose display space that can be used to host exhibitions or special presentations during the residency. Visiting residents not only benefit from supportive interaction with the surrounding arts community, but also benefit from joining a network of past residents with whom they can exchange ideas and form lasting professional relationships.
“The time at AIR was creative, meditative, restorative. The two of us lived a simple life, made good food, came together for meals twice a day, walked to several nearby restaurants for a change of pace. The flexibility of the space was great for writing — we were able to pitch separate camps or share space to work together according to our needs. We used the front window, the dining table, miscellaneous perches that the lightweight folding tables made possible, and, thanks to a spell of marvelous Kentucky weather, the picnic table outside, where I greeted first light, enjoyed happy hour, and sometimes wrote well past dark. About A.I.R. Studio Paducah
A.I.R. Studio Paducah, now in its 19th year as an artist residency program, is situated in the heart of the LowerTown Arts District, Paducah, Kentucky. Since 2004, creatives from around the country and abroad have passed through A.I.R. doors to make the most of the space and a stretch of undistracted time as envisioned by founder Alonzo Davis, himself an artist.
Drawn to Paducah by the Artist Relocation Program, Davis initially considered LowerTown as the location for a personal studio/retreat. Inspired, however, by working retreat experiences in California, Costa Rica, Connecticut, Wyoming, Colorado, and Virginia, Davis decided instead to establish an artist residency program. Not only would visiting artists benefit, but also interaction with a changing influx of creatives from outside could lend an additional dynamic to the evolving LowerTown community. An active residency program heightens the arts district visibility in the world of artist’s communities nationally and internationally.

About Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives
BigCi is an independent, artist run, not for profit artist residency program in Bilpin, Australia (near Sydney), focusing on artists’ professional development and facilitating their projects. Established and run by Rae Bolotin, a practicing artist, and Yuri Bolotin, environmentalist and wilderness explorer.
BigCi is situated on the edge of Wollemi National Park within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains, one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots. Due to the location and knowledge base of BigCi’s team, many resident artists are particularly interested in projects that explore environmental or ecological issues, although others use the outstanding natural surroundings as a source of creativity for a variety of different artistic pursuits.
All residents have opportunities to take part in bushwalks conducted by Yuri Bolotin, an experienced mountain guide and author, and to learn first-hand about the unique biodiversity and geodiversity of the area.

The duration of the residency is one month. It offers a one bedroom self-accommodating cabin on the site of Pond Farm Pottery and a stipend of $250 to help cover some expenses, e.g. for food or travel.

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods is the nonprofit organization that supports education and stewardship programs in Russian River area State Parks.
Pond Farm is a special place. It originally started as an artists’ community in the late 1940s, then transitioned to Pond Farm Pottery where studio pottery artist Marguerite Wildenhain lived, worked, and taught annual summer workshops. Marguerite Wildenhain dedicated her life to her craft. After finishing her studies at the Bauhaus she became the first female master potter in Germany. She was a remarkable woman who touched many lives through her work and her teachings. Marguerite strongly believed that the journey to become a true artist was not about learning a technique, but much more about the development of the whole person, an “opening of the soul.”

Saltonstall is under no illusions: The coronavirus will be with us — in some way — through next summer. They are planning a 2021 residency season because they believe they can offer a safe residency experience in a way that is responsible and responsive to the needs of artists and writers while protecting their health and that of the staff and local community.
2021 Saltonstall Residency Program Dates
Second annual six-night residency for artist/writer parents:
Thursday, June 3 – Wednesday, June 9. Please note: this residency is strictly for artist/writer parents who have at least one dependent child (under 18) at home.

Residencies provide artists time and private space to do their work without interruption. During one month at Saltonstall, residents are often able to complete at least 3-4 months worth of work. The shorter, two-week residencies have an identical effect. There are minimal chores, and restricted visitor hours ~ all of which allows for maximum focus on the artists work.
There is no cost to attend Saltonstall and no application fee associated with this application. Additionally, to help offset travel to Ithaca and other personal expenses, they have increased their stipends to $750 for each month-long Fellow, $375 for each two-week Fellow, and $200 for each artist/writer attending the six-night residency for parents.

Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts offers residencies for artists on a historic working ranch in Wyoming.

World of Co Artist Residency 2020 offers a friendly, supportive, and stimulating atmosphere to international and Bulgarian artists, curators, researchers and art managers. The residency enables participants to develop ongoing research, work on art projects, and discover the city and artistic scene of Bulgaria. World of Co Artist Residency 2020 Studio Space
Living in a beautiful apartment in the city center, meeting locals, visiting art events in unique spaces, and enjoying wonderful views accompanied by the great food and drinks will make you remember your stay in Sofia.
The residency includes a spacious apartment that occupies the entire floor of a historic residential building from 1895, surviving both World Wars. Despite the fact that the whole space is renovated, some of the details in the interior are preserved and person still can immerse in the days of the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
The apartment includes three fully-furnished individual bedrooms with bed, nightstand, clothes rack, and desk in addition to the one in the studio, where the artists can create when they need some privacy. The studio is part of the same apartment, a bright open shared space, equipped with big working desks, comfortable chairs, lamps, and easels. Except the private bedrooms, everything else is shared with future fellows – bathroom, balcony, fully equipped kitchen (with utensils, oven, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, fridge, and washing machine).
The residents have access to fast Wi-Fi connection, art and travel books, some English novels, and catalogs of previous residents and Bulgarian artists. Some basic tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, levels, scissors, pliers, wire, tape, glue, paper, and painting materials donated by previous artists are at your disposal. Cleaning service included.

The Science Museum of Minnesota announces a call for artists for the Artist at Pine Needles Residency for Summer 2020, a program sponsored by the St. Croix Watershed Research Station. With the vision to enhance scientific understanding through art, the St. Croix Watershed Research Station invites artists-in-residence to interact with the scientific staff and local community to further explore the intersection between art and science. About St. Croix Watershed Research Station
The St. Croix Watershed Research Station is the environmental research station of the Science Museum of Minnesota. It is a private, non-profit laboratory dedicated to better understanding humanity’s relationship with our most precious resource by studying how land use, climate change, atmospheric deposition, and other factors affect aquatic systems.
The setting for the Artist at Pine Needles Residency is the James Taylor Dunn Pine Needles Cabin, located just north of the village of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota, on the bluffs of the St. Croix River. In 2019, the artists selected were: large-scale, 2D and 3D visual artist Katherine Steichen Rosing of Madison, WI; botanical printmaker Linda Snouffer of St. Paul, MN; installation artist and sculptor Peter Krsko of Wonewoc, WI; and emerging artist, lyrical essayist and poet Kate Lucas of Minneapolis, MN.
Applications for 2020 will be accepted from writers and artists who focus on environmental or natural history topics and strive to connect the complex world between art, nature, and the sciences. As part of the program, artists will be encouraged to design an outreach project to share their work with the local community.
Artist at Pine Needles Residency Artist Benefits
The 2020 Artist at Pine Needles Residency offers artists the unique opportunity to interact and learn from freshwater paleolimnological scientists who study how lakes and rivers are changing over time and what can be done to mitigate those changes brought on by land use practices and climate change. This interaction between artists and scientists fosters a deeper understanding of the connections between their artwork, the science currently being done to protect lakes and rivers, and how they interpret that art/science interplay to the public.
Pine Needles Artists get the sole use of a historic, 3-room cabin built before World War I. This rustic, comfortable cabin includes a full bath, bed/sitting room, and kitchen. A generous enclosed porch, overlooking the river, is suitable for writing, sketching, and reflection. It is located on a 20-acre site on the bluffs of the St. Croix River, a nationally designated Wild and Scenic River. The secluded site is heavily wooded, with spring-fed streams, native wildflowers, and local wildlife.
A short walk, bike ride, or drive will bring artists to the quaint village of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota. A coffee shop, community-run library, family-owned restaurant, art gallery, gift shop, and seasonal ice cream shop provides entertainment and home-town feel to visiting artists.

The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology announce a call for artists for the Sitka Center Residency Program. The program has provided more than 250 artists, writers, musicians and natural science scholars the opportunity to conduct their work in the unique environment of Cascade Head and Salmon River estuary. Residents are on campus October through mid-May for the general residency program. The Sitka Center hosts approximately 14-25 residents each year. Some residents are emerging voices while others are mature professionals who are internationally recognized in their disciplines.

Residents come from across the U.S. and, to date, seventeen nations. Up to five residents at a time, usually from different disciplines and stages in their careers, live and work on campus. Residencies are anywhere from 2 weeks up to 3 1/2 months free of charge. A residency is about taking precious time out of the regular routine of life and expanding into the space of creativity. It is a gift of space and time.
Sitka Center Residency Program Artist Benefits
The residences include living room, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen areas set-up with basic cooking supplies. Residents are encouraged to bring items to make the living space accommodate their personal needs, e.g., a favorite cooking skillet or pillow. Laundry facilities are available on campus. Each resident has their own private residence within walking distance of each other. Most residents are given a private studio.
No stipend is provided. Residents are responsible for providing their own food, art supplies, and transportation while in residence. The living space and studio space is offered free-of-charge. The resident is responsible for all travel and living expenses, e.g., food, art supplies and consumables.

The National Parks Arts Foundation announces a call for artists for the Chaco Culture AiR: October 2020, an all media artist residency at Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Call open to any level artist working in any medium including writers, poets, filmmakers, video artists, new media, screenwriters, sculpture and 3D artists, and visual artists. The Chaco Culture National Historic Park October residency is one of two residencies offered to artists at the park in 2020. The residency is inside the park, in National Park Service housing, and there is no studio. Artists will work plein air or in their lodging. This is a very isolated location.
Located in the four corners area of New Mexico and founded as an Antiquities Monument in 1907, Chaco Culture National Historical Park was operated for most of the 20th century as an anthropological storehouse of knowledge and evidence of the Chacoan Culture. This beautiful and isolated complex preserves the historical traces of the sacred ancestral culture to many of the existing pueblos of the Southwest. The park is a Dark Skies certified location, an ideal place for astronomy and astrophotography. The Monument expanded to its present boundaries and park designation in 1980.
The park is located in the open plains of Northwestern New Mexico, sharing borders with the Navajo Nation and BLM land. It is approximately one and a half hours from the closest city, Farmington, and two hours and forty minutes from Albuquerque. A vehicle is definitely required for this residency. (Lyft or Uber are never practical workarounds in the beautiful, isolated open spaces of this corner of New Mexico.)

Selected artists will receive a $1000 stipend and one month housing at NPS Housing in the National Park. This is a rare privilege usually available only to occasional visitors and anthropologists. The residency includes at least one public event at the park which allows the artists to engage with park visitors and discuss their work. Selected artists are eligible to donate a single artwork through NPAF that will (by mutual agreement) be a part of the NPS’s historic art collection. The National Parks Arts Foundation’s residencies were recently named one of 7 Artist Residency Programs ‘with career launching power.’ NPAF and this park were recently the subject of a Hyperallergic Feature about the usefulness of art in the National Parks as a way to counter rampant oil and gas development strategies.

The National Parks Arts Foundation announces a call for artists for the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park AiR: September 2020, an all media artist residency at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Call open to any level artist working in any medium including writers, poets, filmmakers, video artists, new media, screenwriters, sculpture and 3D artists, and visual artists. Outdoor site specific installations are generally not accepted due to the delicate setting and may require special permissions and permitting for the National Park Service.

The Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park (HAVO) summer residency is one of three residencies offered to artists at the park in the summer of 2020. The residency is just outside the park. It is very close to the Kahuku Unit of HAVO and about 45 minutes by car to the park headquarters and / or the summit of the volcanoes. The house is large, near the famous beaches of green sand, and can accommodate a family, art collective, or musicians group. There is a studio and a demo booth (for musicians and podcasters) at the house.
Located on the Big Island, Hawai’i, USA, HAVO is one of the jewels of the U.S. Park System. It is home to Mauna Kea and Kīlauea Volcanoes, some of the most sacred places in the Hawaiian Islands, and many unique and precious flora and fauna. A vehicle is required for this residency. (Lyft or Uber are not practical workarounds on the Island.)
