Newton Free Library Art Exhibits Eligibility: Two dimensional works by New England region artists. Artists from a variety of ethnicities and life experiences are encouraged to apply.

Free-standing sculptural pieces not eligible.

A jury of professional artists meets twice each year to select shows for the following year.

Given that free gallery space is difficult to come by, it is a boon for artists that, if selected, they show fee-free. The library has a robust social media presence and will do an extensive amount of outreach to help promote artists’ work. Library patrons are keenly tuned into the gallery spaces – visiting and spending time appreciating the works shown. Many artists meet with success in selling their work. There is no commission for work sold. There is no fee to apply.

Testimonials

“I’ve had the privilege and honor of showing my work at the Newton Free Library four times in the past 10 years. Because of its exceptionally high patronage, sales have always been robust in this free exhibit space. Great care is taken in the organizing of these shows and the library provides an excellent Walker hanging system making installation a breeze.”

“As an award winning, gallery represented, Copley Master artist, this is one of my favorite venues in terms of sales, exposure, and enthusiasm of the visiting patrons. I highly recommend this venue for any visual artist.”

About Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods

Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods is the nonprofit organization that supports education and stewardship programs in Russian River area State Parks.

Pond Farm is a special place. It originally started as an artists’ community in the late 1940s, then transitioned to Pond Farm Pottery where studio pottery artist Marguerite Wildenhain lived, worked, and taught annual summer workshops. Marguerite Wildenhain dedicated her life to her craft. After finishing her studies at the Bauhaus she became the first female master potter in Germany. She was a remarkable woman who touched many lives through her work and her teachings. Marguerite strongly believed that the journey to become a true artist was not about learning a technique, but much more about the development of the whole person, an “opening of the soul.”
