King Edward Public Art Project – Call for Artists

cSPACE invites artists who are resident to Alberta to submit qualifications for the King Edward Public Art Project aimed to create semi-integrated public artwork(s) that contribute to the transformation of historic King Edward School into a 21st century Arts Hub and Incubator.

As a facility designed to support diverse communities of creatives, this is a unique opportunity for artist(s) to be involved in an impactful, multi-site, public art project. cSPACE seeks partnerships with artists who have the creativity and capacity to design and execute bold public artwork(s).

This call to artists includes a two-stage selection process. Up to three artists will be shortlisted for each location to submit conceptual designs from which the chosen artist(s) will be selected by the cSPACE public art jury. Shortlisted artists will participate in site visits and further research prior to preparing full proposals.

We encourage artists applying to the King Edward Public Art Project to be bold and are offering additional types of support throughout the public art process. Peer-to-peer mentorship opportunities with different career stage artists will be supported by cSPACE and project management expertise may be provided with assistance from our engineering and consultant team. Budgets are inclusive of artist fees and materials required for the creation and installation of the artwork; however, artists will not incur fees for project management consultation or engineering review.

Commission: The total budgets for the commission for three individual artworks are $90,000, $50,0000, and $30,000 (including GST). Budget amounts must cover all costs associated with design, fabrication, and installation for relevant site locations of the artwork including but not limited to artist fees, materials, installation, and so forth.

This call is produced with the support of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Public Art Commission Program. Final works of art will become a part of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts permanent collection.

cSPACE King Edward is a sustainably-designed hub located in the vibrant, arts-friendly, inner-city neighborhood of South Calgary near Marda Loop. With over 47,000 square feet of highly adaptable studio, production, exhibition, rehearsal, and office spaces, the building will be a dynamic platform that enables cutting edge social enterprise, imaginative non-profits, and risk-taking artists to be powerful agents of change in our communities.

The New Gallery – Call for Artists

The New Gallery (TNG) is seeking proposals for the 2017-18 programming year.

Deadline: 29 May 2016

Please note that The New Gallery accepts proposals for solo exhibitions, but may also consider individual artists for inclusion in a curated group show. Main Space exhibitions range from four to six weeks in duration.

The New Gallery only accepts digital submissions via e-mail. Physical materials will be discarded or recycled. Please format all written materials as a single .PDF document. Images must be numbered RGB .jpeg files with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels at 72 DPI and no larger than 1 MB in size. TNG accepts links to video and audio work hosted online. E-mailed applications must be submitted in a single .zip folder containing both documents and images.

Successful applicants will be notified at the beginning of September 2016. Regrettably, TNG does not contact unsuccessful applicants due to high volumes of submissions. If you have not heard from us by early September and would like to request feedback, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Exhibiting artists are offered a fee of $1900 to show their work (commensurate with 2016 CARFAC Fee Schedule – A.1.1) Additionally, TNG provides both accommodations and financial resources to aid artists in managing shipping and travel costs. Details of this budget are determined on a case-by-case basis.

TNG is committed to providing opportunities and venues for artists that foster social and political creative practices, while engaging and educating audiences through contemporary art. TNG’s Main Space is located at 208 Centre St SE in Calgary’s Chinatown. Main Space programming comprises exhibitions by artists, collaborators, curators, and other cultural producers from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

ARTember Art Market – Call for Artists

Creative Airdrie hosts an Annual ARTember event, supporting and celebrating the Arts and Culture Scene within Airdrie. This year‘s ARTember will include a multi-day outdoor Arts Festival and ARTember art market.

Participation fee includes the following:

  • A 10X10 tent with table and 2 chairs
  • Artisan market ambassador to ensure smooth set up and take down
  • Promotion in various ARTember advertising and communications
  • 1 parking stall

The anticipated attendance is 4,000 individuals over 2 days.

The Creative Airdrie Society (CAS) acts as the hub for investment, promotion, engagement, development, and education of the arts in the Airdrie community. Formed in September of 2010 by business leaders and artists, CAS has successfully changed the arts landscape in the City of Airdrie by launching an annual arts festival and creating several ground breaking public art initiatives. CAS is generating city-wide buzz for their focus and acumen to move arts and culture to the forefront of the general population and local and regional government.

Painted City Street Art Program for Youth – Call for Artists

The City of Calgary Public Art Program is seeking to commission up to three artists and/or artist teams to participate in the pilot for the Painted City Street Art Program in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Calgary.

The Program is commissioning two different opportunities with three total positions to fill. One artist will be hired as the Painted City Program Lead and will have experience working with youth in a collaborative manner to lead art program planning and implementation. Two artists will be hired as Painted City Lead Artists and will plan interactive design workshops with youth that will result in a large-scale exterior artwork.

The Public Art Program, within the division of Culture, is committed to acquiring great public art that impacts Calgary’s urban landscape and transforms the way Calgarians see, think, and experience the city around them.

West Eau Claire Public Art Pathway Design – Call to Artists

The City of Calgary is seeking a professional artist(s) to develop a design that will be integrated into the pathway system within the Delta Garden in West Eau Claire Park.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a much-loved downtown park space directly adjacent to the Santiago Calatrava Peace Bridge and the Bow River. The successful artist(s) will work with The City’s project team and consultants to develop a design that reflects the goals of West Eau Claire Park and creates a vibrant experience along the pathway system. The artist’s design will be realized using luminescent material embedded into asphalt. The artist will lead materials research and surface design, and oversee installation/implementation of the public artwork.
