The City of Gaithersburg invites artists to submit qualifications for a public art installation at Constitution Gardens. The selected artist will work closely with the Art in Public Places Subcommittee and the City’s Arts Administrator to design, fabricate, and install a children’s entrance at the newly renovated park.
Deadline: 10 Apr 2016
The online application process includes the submittal of a resume, representative works of art, and an artist’s proposal of 500 words or less. Detailed proposals are not requested at this time; only preliminary ideas.
Constitution Gardens, a municipal park at the intersection of Brookes and Park Avenues in Olde Towne, has been redesigned as a nature play space by Seneca Creek Collaborative. It integrates natural components for structured and unstructured play and learning. The park celebrates the past, present, and future of Gaithersburg, weaving together threads of sustainability with elements inspired by the cultural, economic, and natural history of the area.
Chosen artists for the public art installation will receive an honorarium to develop a full proposal for the project. The chosen proposal will be paid a commission for the project, dependent on the proposed project.
The City of Gaithersburg supports the arts and artists through the Art in Public Places Program. This is a unique opportunity for working artists to receive commissions for one-of-a-kind public art projects.
