In 1980, Faber Birren, world renowned color consultant and author of 27 books on color, endowed the Faber Birren Color Award Exhibit with awards for original and creative expression of color. The exhibition has grown from regional to national in scope, and encourages artists in all media. To be held at The Townhouse Gallery in Stamford and online.

About Stamford Art Association
Established in 1971 by a group of 24 local artists in an 1874 historical townhouse, the Stamford Art Association is a nonprofit 501(c)3 arts organization whose members include painters, sculptors, printmakers, photographers, and multimedia artists. The association is supported by grants from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Connecticut Humanities, the City of Stamford, the Kuriansky Foundation, and generous donations from individual artists and friends. Their mission is to provide art and education programs as well as a forum where emerging and professional artists can exhibit artwork and engage with other artists, community organizations, and the public.

Each June, NXTHVN welcomes up to seven artists, two curators, and eight New Haven high school students to its annual Studio and Curatorial Fellowships programs. Through a proprietary curriculum that focuses on mentorship, professional development, and skills training, members of the cohort cultivate their individual practices within a collaborative, community-driven context.

Each fellow mentors a local high school apprentice, providing them with hands-on instruction in studio and curatorial practices. Through active participation in NXTHVN’s year-long programs, early-career artists and curators make the personal strides and interpersonal connections that advance their careers.

About NXTHVN
NXTHVN is a multidisciplinary arts incubator that cultivates creative community in Dixwell. Through intergenerational mentorship, professional development and cross-sector collaboration, NXTHVN accelerates professional careers in the arts.
NXTHVN shapes unique year-long Fellowships program as an incubator. They combine support in administrative and theoretical aspects of the profession with individual mentorship. They bring leaders in the field to cohorts of artists, curators, and apprentices.
The paid high school Apprenticeship program focused one-on-one mutual learning, giving the next local generation a chance to grow and excel in the fine arts.
They encourage collaboration between artists, art professionals, and local entrepreneurs to further New Haven’s growing creative community. Their space is a public, yet protected, place dedicated to nurturing the growth of Fellows, Apprentices, and the neighborhood. In addition, there will be an opening reception that will be attended by artists, Parking Authority representatives, area politicians, notables, and the public. The Gallery promotes the opening reception and exhibit in all local media outlets.

The exhibit will run from July 15 through October 5, 2019. The Maritime Garage Gallery’s Small Treasures exhibit is seeking works of art that are small in size but large on creativity. The height and width of the pieces must be no larger than 12 inches and no more than 5 inches in depth, including the frame. The Photography, Sculpture, and Fiber Art Juried Show will feature the work of many artists who transform their seen and imagined worlds into compelling works of art. For the first time, RAC will include fiber art as a category for an exhibition in the gallery (defined as fine art whose material consists of natural or synthetic fiber and other components such as fabric or yarn).
Michael Shapiro, Judge, is a collector of vintage and contemporary photography. He became established as a dealer in 1980 after leaving a curatorial position at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu, California. His nonprofit work includes eight years as a board member of the Ansel Adams Center/Friends of Photography, as well as serving on the boards of San Francisco Art Dealer’s Association and the San Francisco Waldorf School.

The Rowayton Arts Center celebrates the study, creation, and appreciation of the arts. It offers classes, exhibitions, and events open to the community. For almost 60 years, the RAC has been a cultural gem in the Norwalk community. Regional artists may exhibit and sell their art, as well as a wonderful venue for art workshops and classes.
