Professional and student artists of all mediums are invited to submit up to 3 artworks for consideration. $20 application fee waived for students.

The theme for 2026 is “Homeland.” A person’s or a people’s native land, Decatur Arts Alliance looks to explore “homeland” as a geographical point of origin and a state of being. Works should express cultural and ethnic elements. Elucidate the view of “home” from the immigrant to the expatriate, and the displaced to the indigenous. How do we find “home” when we are away from the land of our forebears? What do newly arrived people do to preserve their culture and heritage? How do we honor and acknowledge the indigenous inhabitants of the lands upon which we all now live?
The Home Exhibition is a juried multimedia showcase presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance in collaboration with the Decatur Land Trust and the Decatur branch of the Dekalb County Public Library. The exhibition will be shown in the Fourth Floor Gallery of the Decatur Library in Decatur, Georgia, home to the Georgia Center for the Book. The show will run May 29 – July 17, 2026, with an opening reception on Friday, May 29 from 6:30-9pm.

Occasionally, the City of Decatur and other local institutions select artwork to be purchased as part of their collections. All purchases and awards will be publicly announced on the exhibition website. Each institution has its own procurement procedures, so payment may take longer to process for institutional purchases. While the Decatur Arts Alliance works to ensure timely payment to artists, funds disbursements from outside institutions are not within the organization’s control and may result in delays.
About the Organizers
Decatur Arts Alliance (DAA) connects residents, businesses, tourists, and artists to increase arts access and engagement in the city of Decatur, Georgia. Founded in 1989, the nonprofit produces the annual Decatur Arts Festival, numerous city-wide public art programs, community art and music events, and in 2024, launched the “Creative Village” project at Legacy Park that offers affordable artist studios and community workshops for all ages and skill levels.
The DAA provides a collaborative environment to coordinate the interests of artists, gallery owners, theater groups, dance groups and performance venues within the city, helping to make Decatur home to a strong arts community. The Decatur Arts Alliance is supported by membership and sponsorship, along with proceeds from the Decatur Arts Festival and the Decatur Wine Festival.
The Decatur Land Trust (DLT) is a non-profit entity established in 2021 to address the city’s loss of affordable homes and low- to moderate-income residents in the City of Decatur. It works to preserve a permanently affordable community.

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Decatur Arts Alliance announces a call for artists for Small Changes, the 34th Annual Decatur Fine Arts Exhibition. Submit 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional media for consideration in this juried multimedia presentation to be held May 4 – June 16, 2023 in conjunction with the Decatur Arts Festival.
The Fine Arts Exhibition returns in 2023—with a few Small Changes. First, a change of location: the downtown Decatur public library has beautifully renovated the fourth floor into a spacious gallery. This prime location and extended hours will improve accessibility to the Fine Arts Exhibition. Second, the time of year: the Decatur Arts Festival is now presented during the first full weekend of May, a time with generally temperate weather. Finally, the exhibition will now center around an annual theme. In celebration of these Small Changes, this year’s exhibition will feature artwork that is *no larger than 24 inches in any direction.*

Participants may submit three entries for one fee of $30. Each artwork, which may include three images, must be submitted on a separate entry form.
Artwork will be chosen from submitted entries by a panel of three jurors on the basis of creative excellence and quality of execution.
- All works must be original and completed within the last two years.
- The sponsors are the final authority on eligibility.
- Works to be hung must be ready for hanging with any necessary hardware in place.
- Entries must be no larger than 24 inches in any direction, including framing.
Small Changes Artist Benefits
The Decatur Arts Festival draws approximately 60,000 people to downtown Decatur, Georgia, for a celebration of the arts that includes a juried Artists Market; Kids’ Fest; performance stages celebrating theatre, dance, comedy, spoken word, and music; and the Fine Arts Exhibition. This large audience represents a broad spectrum of knowledge and appreciation of the arts, and the Fine Arts Exhibition addresses this spectrum with a diversity of styles and media. Works selected for the show reflect a wide range of artists’ experiences and viewpoints, with excellence as a common thread.

- Best of Show: $1,000
- Gold Award: $700
- Silver Award: $500
Purchase awards totaling $2,500 are selected by the City of Decatur for inclusion in its public art collection.
Sales are encouraged. The Decatur Arts Alliance handles all sales and collects a 25% commission on all artwork sold as a result of this exhibition. All artwork for sale must be priced by the artist and so stated in the entry. Please be sure to include the 25% commission for the Decatur Arts Alliance in your price. The 8% Georgia sales tax will be added at the point of sale. Sales from the Fine Art Exhibition have increased each year and works from the exhibition have been added to private, corporate, and non-profit collections.
