Pope Francis’ upcoming visit to Philadelphia in September, 2015, is occasioning activities and festivities from many sectors of the city and region. Philadelphia Sculptors, in conjunction with the Globe Development Group, will make a unique contribution to the citywide events with Pope Up, an exhibition of artworks that present artists’ concepts relating to this historic visit.
Deadline: 1 Jul 2015
Artists of all backgrounds and media will create artwork that celebrates, comments upon, interprets, imagines, or explores elements of any established religion, or specifically the papacy and its history, social context, culture, and/or regalia. The exhibition will take place at Globe Dye Works, a former manufacturing facility in the Frankford section of Philadelphia that now houses small businesses, artists’ studios, and community organizations.
The show will run from September 4 – 27 and will be open to the public on weekends. Pope Up will be included in the 2015 Philadelphia Fringe Festival and will continue throughout the month of September. Selected artists will also be able to sell smaller works in the Pope Up store.
Artists will have an opportunity for their works to be seen by a wide range of viewers, from Fringe Festival attendees to people visiting during the Pope’s tour. Artworks will be for sale, and artists will be able to sell additional small works in the Pope Up store. This will be an edgy show held in the always fascinating Globe Dye Works, and is sure to attract wide attention.
Philadelphia Sculptors always looks to find new and interesting venues to host our shows of provocative and attention-grabbing art. We support artists, believe in their creativity and encourage out-of-the-box thinking.
