The Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce announces a call for artists for the Littleton Arts And Culture Festival 2019. This is the 50th year of what had been known as the Littleton Art Festival. For the 50th anniversary celebration the Chamber has re-imagined this event to be a celebration of arts, culture, and community. On Saturday, September 21st, the Chamber will welcome a diverse group of artists and visitors from around the region to celebrate art, culture, and community together.

Applications are now being accepted by the Newton Free Library for January – June 2020 Exhibits. Applicants must be from the New England region (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island). All work presented must be original and produced within the last three years. Giclée reproductions of original work will not be accepted. Giclée printed photographs are excepted.

The Walker System is used for January – June 2020 Exhibits. Therefore, artwork must have a wire across the back to accommodate this system. Free-standing sculptural pieces are not shown. Artists are responsible for hanging their work using the Walker Rods. Please refrain from submitting material that is obscene, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment. One packet per artist. If you are applying for a group show, submit one combined packet. If you have shown here before, then you are welcome to apply again in two years. You must be available to show for at least four out of the six months in the current round. If accepted, the library will determine when your show will take place and in which space. The assignments are fixed and cannot be changed. The committee’s selections will be posted on the Newton Free Library about page by Friday, September 12, 2019.
January – June 2020 Exhibits Artist Benefits
No commission for work sold. The Newton Free Library does outreach to help promote artists’ work. They are successful in obtaining media coverage which attracts attention to their galleries. They have a presence on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The Newton Free Library is one of the busiest public library buildings in the state of Massachusetts. They present monthly shows of two-dimensional works by New England area artists in their exhibiting spaces, the Gallery and Main Hall. They are a state-of-the-art facility visited by more than 15,000 people weekly. The Library Art Committee meets twice each year to select shows for the following year. They have ongoing listings in Art New England and other area publications including the local press. Art shows are featured on the Newton Free Library homepage.

The Newton Free Library is a community center at the heart of cultural activity in their city. In addition to art gallery openings, the programming calendar includes a wide variety of events for all ages. They have a concert series which often attracts a standing room only audience (150+) on Sundays. It takes place in a room adjacent to the galleries.
Newton, MA is a city south west of Boston with a population of approximately 85K. Many of the residents are highly educated and include more than one Nobel Prize winner. Most are very tuned into the gallery shows and eagerly await them each month.

The Littleton Art Festival is open to fine arts media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, jewelry, pottery, stained glass, and fiber.

The festival has drawn crowds from across the country who come to experience the beauty and charm of the White Mountains region. Friday night will include an artist reception. The MacDowell Colony announces a call for artists for their Artist Residencies Winter Spring 2018. Residencies provide time, space, and an inspiring environment to artists of exceptional talent.

A MacDowell Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a studio, accommodations, and three prepared meals a day for two weeks to two months. There is no cost for the Artist Residencies Winter Spring 2018; however, artists are responsible for materials and travel expenses. In order to open the residency experience to a wider, more diverse community of artists, MacDowell offers two financial assistance programs to those who have been awarded a residency. Through the generosity of several foundations and individuals, need-based stipends are available to artists who would not otherwise be able to afford the time away that a residency requires. Additionally, travel reimbursement grants are available to defray the cost of travel to and from New Hampshire. MacDowell encourages applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics. The sole criterion for acceptance is artistic excellence.
Artists will benefit from the freedom to create in an inspiring and rural environment away from daily distractions. There is no requirement for our artists to complete a specific work while in residence. Each artists receives their own private studio space in which to pursue their creative projects. Artists have access to a state of the art library 24 hours a day throughout the duration of their stay. Additionally, every participant engages with a diverse community of artists in a variety of disciplines for daily meals and through nightly social activities such readings, films, and presentations of one another’s work.
