Bayside Council invites submissions from artists to take part in the 3rd annual Bayside Art Awards 2019 recognizing outstanding achievements in sculpture, photography, and visual arts. The Awards are run by Bayside Council as part of their annual Arts Festival.

The Bayside Arts Festival is a month-long festival promoting, engaging, and acknowledging the local creative community as well as increasing opportunities for the broader community to participate in arts and cultural activities in the area. In 2018, the Festival program featured 30 community events, highlights include the Sculptures @ Bayside Exhibition, stART (Launch Event), GRaB (Georges River & Bayside) Arts & Cultural Forum, CamerART Photographic Competition, School Holiday Program, Earth Day Eco-Fair, Bushtracks and Turtle Dreaming Exhibition (featuring local Aboriginal Artists), and Nature and Life (Australian Chinese New Art Society) Exhibition.

Now in its 3rd year, the Bayside Arts Festival continues to grow, scheduled to run from Saturday 6 April to Sunday 5 May, 2019, it will feature an exciting series of arts and cultural events, workshops and exhibitions that are accessible, innovative and engaging.

Entry is free. Finalists will be displayed during the Bayside Arts Festival along the Cook Park, Kyeemagh Foreshore, from Saturday 6 April to Sunday 28 April 2019.

Broken Hill Art Exchange (HBAE) announces a call for artists for their Residential Studio Centre, Broken Hill, Far West New South Wales, Australia. Available to individuals and groups from academic, business and / or artistic fields. Suitable for field trips and environment related activities in situ. The Broken Hill Art Exchange live-in residencies provide accommodation with private studios to all sectors and disciplines including applied arts and crafts and visual, performance, and literary artists.

Established in 2001, the Broken Hill Art Exchange is a not for profit, artist and volunteer run organisation that operates two residency facilities including Residencies @ The Grand and Residencies @ Duff Street. The residencies are suitable for short and long-term stays. They are situated in the city of Broken Hill Far West New South Wales Australia. The city has a population of approximately 18,000 people and is easily accessible by rail, air, and road. It is renowned for its architecture, clarity of light, astronomy, geology and mineral rainforest, environmental landmarks, social history, heritage, and culture. Situated close to National Parks, the Murray Darling River and nearby Indigenous townships it is the ideal place to explore the region.

Broken Hill was named Australia’s Heritage City because of its significance to the nation in the fields of industrial relations, geology, water and land management, and for the resilience of its population. The people of Broken Hill are passionate about the environment. It is home to many diverse artists and art galleries.

Residential Studio Centres

The Residential Studio Centre @ The Grand are in the cultural hub of the city surrounded by art galleries, museums, libraries, and cafes. Residents have a choice of living quarters and studios to suit their needs. Every resident has an assigned private work / study / studio area (3 x 6 metres). Utilize the kitchen and lounge, courtyard, conference rooms, art gallery, exhibition spaces, and onsite information office.

The Residential Studio Centre @ Duff Street occupy a converted 1950’s shopping centre adjoining a leafy recreational park in the southern district of the city. Each residency is self-contained with kitchenette and private amenities. The studio workspaces are approximately 6 – 9m x 10m with large light filled windows. From here, it is a few minutes’ walk to Broken Hill’s famous Regeneration Bush Reserves and the quaint shopping district of Patton Village.

Stay a little or stay a while. Subsidized residencies from $190 to $265 per week.

Proudly supported by the major art infrastructure builders of the region, including West Darling Arts and Screen Broken Hill, the Broken Hill Art Exchange Residential Studio Centre provides the perfect entry point to experience the Far West region of New South Wales Australia. The residency offers subsidize accommodation and studios to suit your budget. At the residency, have uninterrupted studio time to immerse yourself in your practice and the environment. Broken Hill Art Exchange will assist you in networking, exhibitions, or running workshops and community engagement projects. Each year, BHAE runs a Desert Equinox Program. Residents are published in the Art Almanac produced for the event. As a resident, the facilities available include a gallery, exhibition spaces, the heritage courtyard, conference rooms, guest kitchen and lounge, and additional work spaces as required.

About Broken Hill Art Exchange

The residents of this famous mining town are passionate about the environment. Artists love the space, the big skies, clarity of light and the landscape. It is the most accessible inland arid zone desert region of Australia. There is a population of approximately 18,000 people living in Broken Hill and 26,000 across the region. It is entirely volunteer run and been operating for close to 19 years. The people are friendly, knowledgeable, and environmentally conscious. The area has one of the largest uptakes of solar and wind energy in Australia, servicing the capital cities.

Broken Hill was the birthplace of the global mining giant BHP. As such and in response to environmental sustainability, some of Australia’s first environmental conservation projects initiated from this city. It is Australia’s Heritage City renowned for social and political change, its geology and mineral rainforest. The residency program attracts and supports many leading international artists to live and work in the region. BHAE is innovative, resourceful, resilient, and ready to assist individuals and groups to achieve their endeavors.

BigCi Environmental Awards 2019 – Call For Artists

Artists from various fields – visual art, installation, multimedia, performance, literature, music, photography, film making, curating – are invited to submit entries for the BigCi Environmental Awards 2019.

There is an entry fee of AUD$50 that must be paid at the time of sending the submission. Entry fees are not refundable. They will be used to support these Awards and other BigCi artist-in-residence programs.

BigCi Environmental Awards 2019 Artist Benefits

The two winning artists will each receive:

  • Four (4) free weeks of BigCi residency and AUD$2,500 spending money
  • Up to AUD$2,000 flight travel subsidy will be shared between the two winners
  • An opportunity to explore the Wollemi, the Blue Mountains, and the Gardens of Stone National Parks on guided walks
  • Research assistance relevant to their projects
  • At the end of their residencies, present their work at BigCi Open Day

About BigCi

BigCi is an independent, artist run, not for profit artist residency program focusing on artists’ professional development and facilitating their projects. BigCi has been established and run by Rae Bolotin, a practicing artist, and Yuri Bolotin, environmentalist and wilderness explorer.

Because of the location on the edge of Wollemi National Park within the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains and the knowledge base of our team, many resident artists are particularly interested in projects that explore environmental or ecological issues. Others use the beautiful natural surroundings as a source of creativity for a variety of artistic pursuits.
