“And behind door number 2. A brand new…” United States television prizes are all about the “new.” Though we often focus on the new and shiny there is amazing beauty in the decayed, corroded, and rusted. It can make images of those items so much more compelling and interesting.
Consider the textures and colors in an abandoned, dilapidated factory or prison, rust on an old bike, contrasting plaster and lathing on a corroded wall, and myriad of possible captures in a junkyard. Neighborhoods, disparagingly called “run down,” are treasure troves of “decayed” tumble down houses, “corroded” discarded toys, “rusted” cars, and trash cans.

Decay, Corrosion, Rust can take many forms – black and white, color, or abstract. All photographic media are welcome.
As with all NYC4PA calls, all 2D photographic art is accepted. Images awarded an NYC4PA prize within the past 2 years are not eligible. Images submitted that were not selected for a prize may be submitted at any time.
NYC4PA offers opportunities to participate in themed calls for photographers. Each call has a different theme and 50 images win. The prizes total $4000. One large scale artwork will be awarded a $6,000 Purchase Prize and become part of MPAC’s permanent, public art collection. The artwork must be 36″ on any dimension (not including the frame). No 3D artwork will be considered for the Purchase Prize. Based on received applications, 10 large scale pieces will be selected. The selected artwork will become a permanent part of the MPAC collection, which welcomes over 100k visitors annually.
Daisha Board of Daisha Board Gallery, Dallas, Texas, will identify the winning artwork in addition to judging the cash prize pieces.
About The McKinney Performing Arts Center
McKinney Performing Arts Center is considered the community arts center for McKinney, Texas. MPAC is home to two theater groups and hosts events, meetings, schools, concerts, city sessions, and church on the weekend. Whether it’s a split-second reaction to a decisive action or a series of events unfolding over time, submit your visual interpretations of this theme.
Selected works will be featured in an online curated exhibition on the gallery’s website, providing a platform for photographers to showcase their interpretations of the Action Reaction Exhibition to a wide audience.

What may be nothing more than a snapshot at one time of day becomes an impactful image at another. Unlike other art galleries in Laguna Beach who only select local artists, Las Laguna Art Gallery chooses artists from around the globe.
With more than 100 art galleries and artist studios to explore, you’ll come to understand why Laguna Beach is a beloved “art colony.” In fact, the area was discovered by artists. In the late 1800s, visitors were making an annual pilgrimage through the canyons to camp at Laguna Beach each summer. By 1903, painters like Norman St Clair were visiting from San Francisco, attracted to the landscape and light only found on the coast of Laguna. Like tourists of any era, St Clair returned home with glowing reports and landscape paintings that led his artist friends to follow him south. It wasn’t long before plein air (painting outdoors) artists like William Wendt and Frank Cuprien moved to Laguna Beach. Within a few years, Laguna Beach had a permanent population of about 300 people – half of whom were artists.
