The Stamford Art Association invites you to submit artwork to the 39th Faber Birren Color Show. The juried exhibit will run September 22 to October 24, 2019 at the Stamford Art Association Townhouse Gallery, 39 Franklin Street, Stamford CT. The exhibit honors Faber Birren, world renowned color theorist and author of 27 books on color.

The artwork must be original and created in the last three years. Two dimensional and three dimensional work are eligible. Electronic media, performance art, and installations are not accepted.
The juror is Meredith A. Brown, Curatorial Research Associate in the Department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where she organizes contemporary art exhibits. She holds a PhD and MA from the Courthauld Institute of Art, University of London. Dr Brown has curated two shows at the Met in 2019.

Artists will compete for over $2500 in prize money. The art work will be displayed in a three-story art gallery and hung by professional art installers. The exhibit will receive ongoing PR and media coverage. Award winning artists are often invited to participate in media interviews. The selected artists will compete in a national exhibit.
About the Stamfor Art Association
The Stamford Art Association, a 501(c)3 organization, is Stamford, Connecticut’s oldest gallery and art association. Founded in 1971, it currently has 190 member artists including painters, photographers, sculptors, printmakers, and mixed media artists. The gallery holds eight juried shows a year. The Stamford Art Association curates four annual exhibits at the Stamford Library’s art gallery. All artists, not just members, are eligible to participate in sponsored exhibits. The gallery spaces are forums for artists to display their work. For 46 years, the Stamford Art Association has held an annual High School Art Show for the high schools in Fairfield County and awarded over $155,000 in prizes.

The Faber Birren Color Award Show has grown from a regional exhibit to one of national scope.

This year, the Stamford Art Association celebrates its 38th year of the Faber Birren National Color Award Show. Wall work and sculpture are accepted. No performance art or 3D should be submitted. Artwork must be framed and wired for hanging.

Prizes, funded by an original endowment, usually exceed $2000. This exhibit encourages artists to concentrate only on color. The exhibit gets over 1000 visitors. It is an international show that allows artists to be juried by a juror with major NYC gallery and museum experience. This is an opportunity to put yourself on the wall with artists who have work displayed across the US and in museums. Where else can you show your best colors?

The Stamford Art Association is the oldest art gallery in Stamford. It is unique in accepting artists to display work even if they are not members.
