Pitchcraft, Downtown Frederick’s first-ever placemaking competition, invites creative people to pitch an idea that, if physically implemented in Downtown Frederick, Maryland, will better connect the people and places of our community.
Deadline: 21 Sept 2018
Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community. Strengthening the connection between people and the places they share, placemaking refers to a collaborative process by which we can shape our public realm in order to maximize shared value. More than just promoting better urban design, placemaking facilitates creative patterns of use, paying particular attention to the physical, cultural, and social identities that define a place and support its ongoing evolution.
Your idea should have a scope that can be implemented for approximately $2,500 and finished by October 2019. The finished product should be something that is safe for all ages, functions mostly unattended, exists within the footprint of Downtown Frederick, and is feasible to implement. Any necessary City approvals will be requested prior to project implementation.
Pitchcraft submissions will be narrowed down by a panel of judges to four finalists. All finalists will pitch their ideas in front of a live audience on Thursday, October 25. Every audience member will vote for their favorite pitch. A winner will be announced that evening. The cost of each ticket goes directly toward funding the winning idea.
The winning pitch will receive $2,500 and professional support to bring their idea to life. In addition to an award of funds, the winning person will receive guidance from Downtown Frederick Partnership and volunteer advisers to help implement their idea.
