The theme for 2026 is “Homeland.” A person’s or a people’s native land, Decatur Arts Alliance looks to explore “homeland” as a geographical point of origin and a state of being. Works should express cultural and ethnic elements. Elucidate the view of “home” from the immigrant to the expatriate, and the displaced to the indigenous. How do we find “home” when we are away from the land of our forebears? What do newly arrived people do to preserve their culture and heritage? How do we honor and acknowledge the indigenous inhabitants of the lands upon which we all now live?
The Home Exhibition is a juried multimedia showcase presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance in collaboration with the Decatur Land Trust and the Decatur branch of the Dekalb County Public Library. The exhibition will be shown in the Fourth Floor Gallery of the Decatur Library in Decatur, Georgia, home to the Georgia Center for the Book. The show will run May 29 – July 17, 2026, with an opening reception on Friday, May 29 from 6:30-9pm.
HOME V.2: Homeland Gallery Awards
- Best of Show: $1,000
- First Place Award: $700
- Second Place Award: $500
- Student Award: $500
Occasionally, the City of Decatur and other local institutions select artwork to be purchased as part of their collections. All purchases and awards will be publicly announced on the exhibition website. Each institution has its own procurement procedures, so payment may take longer to process for institutional purchases. While the Decatur Arts Alliance works to ensure timely payment to artists, funds disbursements from outside institutions are not within the organization’s control and may result in delays.

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Water, an online photography competition.
Water surrounds us as rivers, lakes, oceans, and seas. It is also very central to much of our lives – the rain that makes our flowers grow, the ice cubes that cool our drinks, and on and on.
It is beautiful to photograph. This call is about how you, the photographer, capture water in all its forms. Is it the crest of water hitting a seaside rock? Is it water heated to become steam or frozen like ice? There are the glistening droplets of water from a puppy shaking itself off, tears expressing heartfelt emotion, and reflections in a city pond as well as active steam from a geyser. Maybe you used a slow shutter to create the soft image of flowing water in a stream or ventured out on a winter day to watch patterns emerge in the city ice rink. There are raindrops, dew drops, ice floes, waterfalls, rapids, and serene lakes. The list goes on. Black and white, color, and abstract – all 2D mediums are welcome.

About Human Impacts Institute
Human Impacts Institute (HII) sits at the intersection of climate action, arts, and community power. They are a nonprofit organization that uses storytelling, research, and creative practice to translate complex climate issues into accessible, human-centered experiences that inspire collective action. Their work elevates underrepresented voices—particularly youth, Indigenous leaders, artists, and frontline communities—and connects them with platforms, resources, and networks to drive real-world impact.
What makes HII distinctive is their focus on collective power: they believe meaningful climate solutions emerge not from individual actors, but from communities working together across disciplines, geographies, and lived experiences. Through fellowships, public exhibitions, open calls, and community-led programs, they transform art into a catalyst for social good—building bridges between culture, policy, and action to reimagine a more just and climate-resilient future.

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Urban Suburban Rural, an online photography competition.
Urban, suburban, and rural: these are location choices we make for living, working, and vacationing. Each has its own visual characteristics that make it the best option. What was it about these locales caught your eye? Was it the crowded streets, public transport, or skyscraper silhouettes in the Urban Landscape? Did you capture hamburgers and hot dogs on a family bar-b-q? Maybe, it was the geometry of a street of well-groomed front yards, a strip mall, or other images representative of the suburban scene. Finally, were you caught up in the imagery of Rural Impressions – the farmhouses, the fields, the animals, the white farm fences, or rusted cars on front lawns?
Send your interpretations of rural impressions, suburban scenes, and urban landscapes. Lots to see, lots to photograph.
