The Hopper Prize was established in order to increase the recognition of artwork created by artists and photographers. The aim is to advance artists’ careers by providing them with unrestricted financial support that is coupled with a platform for increased visibility.

The Hopper Prize is open to all artists aged 18 and older working in any media. There are no restrictions on genre, subject matter, or media. Entries in all media are welcome. The Hopper Prize is committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers. All artists are encouraged to apply.
Total Awards: $11,000.00 USD for Visual Artists
- $3,500.00 – 2 artists will each receive a $3,500 (USD) grant
- $1,000.00 – 4 artists will each receive a $1,000 (USD) grant
- 30 artists will have their work archived on The Hopper Prize’ website
- A selection from the submissions will be featured on The Hopper Prize’ Instagram
- Additional exposure will be available to winners through Journal: Insights into Contemporary Art
Jurors for the current awards are Tyler Blackwell, Associate Curator of the Blaffer Art Museum and Caitlin Julia Rubin, Associate Curator and Director of Programs of the Rose Art Museum. Jurors will select 6 artists from the open call who will each receive an unrestricted cash grant. 2 artists will win $3,500 and 4 artists will win $1,000. Grant awards are unrestricted and may be used any way the recipients choose. The jurors will also select a shortlist of 30 artists who will have their work archived on the Hopper Prize’ website.
When submitting your work, you will have the option to opt-in to be considered for possible featured posts on the Hooper Prize’ Instagram, where they currently reach an audience of over 60k. Editors will be featuring select submissions on a rolling basis prior to the application deadline.
In addition to grant awards, the shortlist, and Instagram reach, The Hopper Prize will provide a platform for exposure via the online Journal: Insights Into Contemporary Art. This digital publication gives artists a new channel to amplify their voice while providing an in-depth look at their work, practice, and background. Grant recipients and shortlisted artists will receive the opportunity to publish an interview to include any work of their choosing as a means of providing continued support beyond the open call.

[Sponsored Listing] Caldwell Arts Council announces a call for artists for the 35th Annual Sculpture Celebration. Sculptors – bring 3 pieces to enter this annual competition for $11,000 in cash awards, judged this year by Elizabeth Brim. Additional opportunity for participants to have works considered for a one-year installation in the Western NC Sculpture Center and Park sales gallery. Early registration discounts available.
This one-day event runs 9am-4pm with all awards announced at 3:30pm. Live music will fill the lovely lakeside Broyhill Walking Park for the day, with free shuttles to area parking for visitors who come from as far as Florida and New York.

This event provides opportunities for both sales and commissions in addition to the competition awards. Best of Show award is $3,000, First Place is $2,000, Second Place is $1,500, and Third Place is $1,000. There are five $500 Judge’s Merit awards, five $100 Honorable Mention awards, and the People’s Choice award of $500. Typically between 2,000-4,000 attendees come, and Caldwell Arts Council actively seeks sculpture art buyers to attend.
Sculptors from the eastern United States, from as far away as Vermont and Florida, Indiana, and Texas have participated in the past. As this has been a long-running event, it is a good opportunity for new and upcoming sculptors.
About Caldwell Arts Council
The Caldwell Arts Council has promoted and presented high quality arts in Caldwell County North Carolina since 1976. It is their mission to establish and maintain an awareness and appreciation of cultural arts in their community by encouraging participation in arts events. They offer various educational opportunities and administrative services that support artists, arts agencies, and audiences.
Caldwell Arts Council owns a permanent sculpture collection of over 80 pieces. One of the largest collections for a town of its size in the United States. These indoor and outdoor artworks are displayed all over Caldwell County and are periodically moved to new locations. In addition, the Arts Council exhibits sculptures along the streets of downtown Lenoir in Tucker’s Gallery, which is a partnership with the City of Lenoir. These pieces are on loan from artists for up to one year. Most are available for sale.
The annual Sculpture Celebration offers the public a unique opportunity to view hundreds of sculptures created by artisans from across the United States. This event occurs on the Saturday after Labor Day in the beautiful Broyhill Walking Park.

AuSable Artisan Village is a non-profit art center and events destination in the heart of Northern Michigan, located in downtown Grayling. AuSable Artisan Village is partially funded by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. [Sponsored Listing] Creative Sonoma announces a call for artists for the Meredith Pier Public Art Project in Bodega Bay, CA. This opportunity is for a public art installation located at the site of the former Meredith Pier. The Meredith Fish Company pier and cannery building was originally built nearly 80 years ago, which was abandoned and then fell into disrepair. The site was formally condemned in 2004 as physically and environmentally unsafe posing dangers to residents, visitors, the water surrounding it, and its ecosystems. The pier is currently being demolished, leaving behind a cement “footprint” on which this public art project will be sited.

Bodega Bay is the ancestral land of the Coast Miwok Native Americans. The community has a rich and diverse history of cultures, industries, and economies. Potential themes for the artwork include, but are not limited to:
- Acknowledgement of the area’s history and the heritage that carries forward
- Homage to the lives of the people who have and currently populate the area, as well as those who have lost their lives at sea as an opportunity for reflection and contemplation by their friends and families
- Celebration of the ecology and conservation of the Bodega Bay waterway
A Sonoma County artist will have the opportunity to install art on a site that holds a lot of history, and something for the future. Projects will be funded up to $10,000. This should be inclusive of artist fees as well as all expenses related to design development including engineering, fabrication, transportation, installation of the artwork, insurance, and other project related expenses.

About the Elgin Social Justice Collective
What space can we make to allow for further artistic expression? How can we create a lasting reflection of the activities of the summer of 2020? What space can we make to allow for peaceful and impactful gatherings of community members to engage? How do we elevate equity in our community? An ad-hoc group of community individuals (now known as the Elgin Social Justice Collective) came together and worked to identify a project that would address those questions. The project consists of four parts: a mural, a documentary, a Juneteenth partnership, and a scholarship.

The submission deadline for the solo exhibition competitions will normally be the last day of each month. However, if enough entries are not received during a particular month, a rolling submission deadline may be set. In this case, these entries will be considered alongside following month’s entries. In the event we receive an overwhelming response from many exceptionally talented artists, we might decide to hold multiple solo exhibitions simultaneously.
The entry fee for up to 5 artworks is a flat $35 (non-refundable). Please make all artwork submissions in a single session.
All types of styles and mediums are welcome, including both 2D and 3D works, painting, sculpture, digital, printmaking, fiber, photography, graphic, mixed media, video, as well as experimental and installation works.
Solo Exhibition Competition Artist Benefits
Artist of the Year $1,000. Second Place and Third Place prizes will be determined at a later date based on submission volume. In addition to cash prize awards, solo exhibitions will be heavily promoted via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. All competition winners will receive Award Certificates.
