[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Art Barn School of Art announces a call for artists for their 30th annual juried art exhibition, to be held April 13 – May 23, 2024.

The purpose of this long-standing exhibition is to promote the creation and recognition of original quality 2-dimensional works of art and ceramic arts. The exhibition attracts entries from established and aspiring artists from Northwest Indiana, Chicago suburbs, and Southwest Michigan.

Entry Fees: Up to 2 entries for $35, plus $5 for one additional entry.

​​The exhibition is open to artists 18 years of age and up and living in the United States. All entries must be of original design and personal execution.

For this juried art exhibition, the Art Barn will accept 2-dimensional media including, but not limited to, drawing, fiber, mixed media, painting, pastels, photography and/or printmaking. Additionally, they accept ceramics works which may be 2 or 3-Dimensional and be functional or non-functional (only single pieces, no sets).

Bryan Byrn, Director and curator at the Midwest Museum of American Art will bring an expert curatorial eye to this year’s artwork selection process. As juror, Mr. Byrn will help Art Barn ensure the highest standards and integrity. He served as this exhibition’s first juror in 1994 and returns for our 30th anniversary.

Art Barn provides numerous purchase and merit awards totaling $6,000.

Awards include:

  • Best of Show – $500
  • Merit Awards – in various values from $20 – $300
  • Purchase Awards – in amounts of $300, $400 or $500)
  • Jan Sullivan Emerging Artist Award – $200 (artists between the ages of 18-25 are eligible)

All proceeds generated from this exhibition, aside from awards, support Art Barn School of Art educational programs and exhibitions.

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center invites emerging and established artists to submit original artworks to Metamorphosis: Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined. This exhibition seeks to inspire environmentally sustainable artmaking through found objects, creative reuse, and upcycled art. By repurposing by-products, waste materials, or unwanted objects and transforming them into something with more perceived and artistic value, artists explore environmental themes, engage in social commentary, and implore a call to action or infuse realism, emotion, or humor in their work.

Artwork for Metamorphosis: Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined must include a repurposed material as a primary medium. 2-D and 3-D artwork will be considered. Outdoor artwork is welcome. All artwork must be created within the last four years. Artists must be 18 years or older. This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center from February 9 to April 21, 2024.

Short-term paid residencies are available to artists accepted into the Metamorphosis show for this unique outdoor eco-art festival. Details about this additional opportunity will be sent upon acceptance into this gallery show.

For artists shipping works from outside the region, transportation grants are available through the Artist Accessibility Fund to help with shipping cost. Grants typically range from $75 to $200 and are awarded on a need basis. The Artist Accessibility Fund was established in loving memory of Southern Maryland artist Michael Tomassoni. Newton Free Library Art Exhibits Eligibility: Two dimensional works by New England region artists. Artists from a variety of ethnicities and life experiences are encouraged to apply.

Free-standing sculptural pieces not eligible.

A jury of professional artists meets twice each year to select shows for the following year.

Given that free gallery space is difficult to come by, it is a boon for artists that, if selected, they show fee-free. The library has a robust social media presence and will do an extensive amount of outreach to help promote artists’ work. Library patrons are keenly tuned into the gallery spaces – visiting and spending time appreciating the works shown. Many artists meet with success in selling their work. There is no commission for work sold. There is no fee to apply.

The Newton Free Library is a community center at the heart of cultural activity in Newton, Massachusetts, a city south west of Boston with a population of approximately 90,000. Many residents are highly-educated and the population includes more than one Nobel Prize winner.

Residents enjoy the art exhibits in the library’s galleries and eagerly await them each month. The highly-visible galleries are located just off the main entrance door. Visitors walk by the galleries as they come into the building. There is competition for exhibitions where many award-winning artists have been featured.

KIRA Residency (St Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada) – Call For Artists

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] Kingsbrae International Residency for the Arts (KIRA) announces a call for artists for the KIRA Residency. Every year KIRA awards 6 artists with a one month residency. Artists are provided with individual studio space, comfortable housing, two prepared meals each day, and live on a historic property in a beautiful seaside town. Artists should bring all supplies and materials needed for their creative process to ensure availability of required supplies and provisions.

As part of the residency, artists will be asked to engage with the community for up to six hours a week. These engagements will vary based on skills and interest and can include a partnership with Kingsbrae Garden which is located just steps away from the residence and studios.

In the late 1800s, visitors were making an annual pilgrimage through the canyons to camp at Laguna Beach each summer. By 1903, painters like Norman St Clair were visiting from San Francisco, attracted to the landscape and light only found on the coast of Laguna. Like tourists of any era, St Clair returned home with glowing reports and landscape paintings that led his artist friends to follow him south. It wasn’t long before plein air (painting outdoors) artists like William Wendt and Frank Cuprien moved to Laguna Beach. Within a few years, Laguna Beach had a permanent population of about 300 people – half of whom were artists.
