Arts Affair Festival (Tifton, GA) – Call For Artists

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Tifton Council for the Arts (TCA) announces a call for artists for the Arts Affair Festival. Cash prizes totaling $1,500 will be awarded. Artists who have not participated in the past are strongly encouraged to apply. No commissions on sales.

The Arts Affair Festival will include a community wide concert on Friday, November 3rd and an arts festival on Saturday, November 4th, 2023, in and around the grounds of the Syd Blackmarr Arts Center. The festival will feature an art exhibit, artist booths, children’s Arts Circus, local authors, food trucks, art demonstrations, live performances throughout the day, and a Sweet Taste of Tifton with a variety of baked good vendors.

There are three ways for artists to participate:

  1. Art Exhibit and Competition Inside: Enter up to 3 pieces of artwork into the exhibit held inside The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center. Artwork will be entered into a competition where a qualified judge will select the most creative and skilled work. Prizes totaling $1,500 will be awarded in various categories.
  2. Artist Market Booth Outside: Register for an outdoor (10 x 10) booth to sell artwork. No commission on sales. Artists must supply their own tent and set up. Not eligible for prizes.
  3. Do Both: Enter up to 3 pieces of artwork into the exhibit AND sell artwork in the Artist Market. Artists keep all proceeds from sales in the Exhibit and Artists Market.

The TCA has over 2,500 followers on Facebook. They partner with many local organizations to promote and participate in the event including Tifton Tourism, the Tifton-Tift County Public Library, YMCA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and Kiwanis. A section of the festival is devoted to kids in the Arts Circus, which brings out the entire family. There will be food trucks at the event Friday and Saturday.

About Tifton Council for the Arts

Tifton Council for the Arts is located in South Georgia, approximately 2.5 hours South of Atlanta on I-75. TCA is housed in The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center (The Syd), a 120-year-old architectural treasure that was originally the Methodist Church. The building was the first brick church built in the community. It brought a refined elegance at the turn of the century to the growing rural town.

Today “The Syd” is operated by the Tifton Council for the Arts Board of Directors and Volunteer Guild. It serves as a cultural anchor for downtown Tifton and provides regular arts, education, and cultural programming to people of all ages and interests.

The Book As Art, Volume 11 (Decatur, GA) – Call For Artists

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Decatur Arts Alliance invites international artists of all mediums to apply for the 11th edition of the juried exhibition of The Book as Art, which will be installed in the newly renovated 4th floor gallery at the Decatur Branch of the DeKalb County Public Library, home to the Georgia Center for the Book.

The Book as Art series seeks to showcase beautifully made volumes, sculptural and conceptual interpretations, one-of-a-kind approaches to the book format, and wall-hung interpretations.

There is an application fee of $30, with which artists may submit up to 3 pieces for consideration. Each work requires its own unique application, but a coupon code is provided in the application instructions that permits two additional submissions without charge. For each application, artists are required to include 1-5 images of the submitted artwork and/or may include 1 video.

Show: Sept. 7 – Oct. 30, 2023.

The Book As Art: Myth & Magic

The Book As Art: Myth & Magic is the eleventh edition of an art show celebrating books: objects that, in an increasingly digital world, stubbornly survive.

Humans possess a fundamental attraction to stories and storytelling. Folktales, fairy tales, and myths are foundational narratives that bridge the secular and the spiritual and merge the factual with the fantastical. Art can challenge and disturb, restore peace and calm, and uplift and inspire. Myths and magic transport and bind us together in the world of imagination.

The objects in this exhibition will interpret the concept of the book and invite the viewer to look beyond the printed page to where ideas, words, and symbols are transformed and transfigured. Artists are challenged to look inward and outward, interpret classical myths and tales, explore and expose modern myths and myth-making, and create new, magical tales.

Audience

The Book as Art is an annual showcase that’s made possible through partnership between the Decatur Arts Alliance, the Dekalb County Public Library, and the Georgia Center for the Book. Located in Downtown Decatur, Georgia, the exhibition is accessible to the greater Atlanta community and a no-cost art experience for local residents and tourists.

Awards

  • Best of Show: $1,000
  • Gold Award: $700
  • Silver Award: $500

Purchase awards totaling $2,500 are selected by the City of Decatur for inclusion in its public art collection.

Sales are encouraged. The Decatur Arts Alliance handles all sales and collects a 25% commission on all artwork sold as a result of this exhibition. All artwork for sale must be priced by the artist and so stated in the entry. Please be sure to include the 25% commission for the Decatur Arts Alliance in your price. The 8% Georgia sales tax will be added at the point of sale. Sales from the Fine Art Exhibition have increased each year and works from the exhibition have been added to private, corporate, and non-profit collections.

Art in the Arboretum will have several opportunities for artists to display their work this year which include traditional style 10′ x10′ tent spaces in the gardens, 5′ x 10′ under-awning spaces outside, and 6′ x 9′ interior booth spaces in the Education Center and Greenhouse. The festival is open to seasoned show veterans to first-timers inside.

Friends of the Arboretum can’t wait to share all the exciting changes that they have made to the 28th annual Art in the Arboretum Festival including new prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artwork; the new limited edition VIP ticket program for collectors; and advertising partners/sponsors.

There are over 1,800 Friends of the Arboretum members who have free admission to the event and another 2,000+ paying attendees each year.

About Friends of the Arboretum

The Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum (i.e. The Friends) was created as a non-profit, 501 c (3) fund raising organization in 1986. Since then, it has provided financial support to the New Hanover County Arboretum for the maintenance of its gardens and their improvement. Over the years, it has supported special projects like the creation of the Contemplation Garden, improvements to the Children’s Garden (which will be completed this year), and the educational programs of Extension.

The Friends’ major fundraiser each year is the Art in the Arboretum Show and Sale which helps assure the Arboretum’s continuing development and preservation.

All Landscape (Online Art Competition) – Call For Artists

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] Contemporary Art Gallery Online (CAGO) announces a call for artists to participate in the All Landscape, an online art competition and exhibition. The landscape theme is any art which depicts the natural world, outdoor scenery, geographical environments, and related landscape subjects; however, water and sky should not exceed 1/3 of the image. Entries welcome from all 2D and 3D artists regardless of your experience or education in the art field.  Submit your best representational and non-representational art.

The All Landscape competition will be judged on three categories: painting / drawing, photography / digital art, and mixed media / 3D art. An online exhibition of all entrants will be held from May 24th, 2023 to June 20th, 2023.

In addition, it is beautiful to photograph. This call is about how you, the photographer, capture water. Is it a thundering waterfall, glistening droplets from a puppy shaking itself off, a surfer caught in the curl, or a reflection in a city pond? Maybe you used a slow shutter to create the soft image of flowing water in a stream, teardrops, raindrops, dew drops, ice floes, waterfalls, rapids, or serene lakes. The list goes on. Black and white, color, abstract, and all 2D mediums are welcome.

Artists may enter up to two pieces of work, but may submit more than one image of each piece.  A jury of three art professionals will select the pieces for the annual juried collage exhibit and may choose one or two per eligible artist. Cash awards and merit certificates will be selected by an awards judge. Notification of the jury’s decisions will be sent via email in late July. The National Collage Society will be awarding both cash and materials awards for this opportunity. Cash awards are allocated in multiple amounts, the minimum of which is $50. The award winners will be listed in the catalog and website. This exhibit will count toward signature membership. The exhibit will be held in Union, New Jersey, and online so it can be viewed from anywhere.

The National Collage Society (NCS) is a not for profit art organization created in 1985. For the past 36 years, the NCS has fostered collage as a medium. With a large and diverse faculty, staff, patient, guest, and learner population, the Gifts of Art exhibition program strives to be inclusive and honor this diversity by mounting exhibits that reflect our community and today’s world.

The artwork in Gifts of Art’s nine galleries changes quarterly and represents a broad range of styles, mediums, forms, and subjects. Enjoy an ever-changing sampling of the best art the region has to offer.

All exhibits are available both in-person (for those who work, are approved visitors, or have an appointment on the main medical campus) and online.

Gifts of Art has created two fine art coloring books featuring designs by former exhibiting artists, local and national artists and designers, and U-M Penny W. Stamps Art and Design students. It shares about 25,000 fine art coloring books a year with Michigan Medicine patients, families, and visitors.
