The d’Art Center in Norfolk, VA announces a call for artists for Strive, a national juried exhibition featuring art that highlights immigration in America and the long admired endeavor of obtaining the American dream. America was formed on immigrants seeking new opportunities, democracy, civil liberties, and religious and political freedom. The topic of immigration has been discussed in almost every news cast over the last two years. It continues to be at the center of much discussion and debate in the United States.

Strive will feature work that depicts various topics surrounding American immigration throughout American history and in today’s society. It spans from those who initially came to the United States seeking the American dream (and those who currently are in the process of doing so today) to refugees looking for a safe haven. This exhibition is open to all 2D, 3D, fine art, and fine crafts. It is open to all artists living in the United States. You do not have to be an immigrant to submit work to the exhibition. This exhibition will be juried by Solomon Isekeije and curated by d’Art Center Staff.
Juror biography: Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Solomon Isekeije studied fine arts at Obafemi Awolowo University in the country’s Osun State. He studied sculpture with Agbola Folarin, printmaking with Bruce Onobrakeya, and wood carving with Lamidi Fakeye. Isekeije graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1992 and obtained his M.F.A. degree from Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University in 2002 with specializations in printmaking and mixed media. He is currently head of Norfolk State University’s Art Department. Isekeije’s works of art have been shown in juried exhibitions worldwide including Daegu City, South Korea, where he received the Distinguished Arts Award, and Tokyo, Japan.
The d’Art Center is Norfolk’s thirty-year-old art center. It includes working professional artist studios and provides a wide variety of exhibitions and programming open to the public. The d’Art Center is located in the NEON district of Norfolk. Strive awards: 1st place: $500, 2nd place: $300, and 3rd place: $150.
About d’Art Center
As Norfolk’s art center, the d’Art Center proudly serves the greater Hampton Roads area by connecting the community with the visual arts. A non-profit 501c(3), d’Art offers art education, programming, outreach, and events. Many of which are free and open to the public. D’Art houses studios occupied by professional resident artists working in a variety of media including painting, glass, ceramics, printmaking, and fiber art. Resident artists provide free, interactive demonstrations for the public.
Celebrating thirty years in 2016, d’Art was founded in 1986 at the College Place location in downtown Norfolk. Modeled after the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, part of d’Art’s mission from the onset was to include working artists’ studios. In 2005, the d’Art Center relocated to the historic Selden Arcade, continuing a legacy as a vibrant arts organization. The d’Art Center remained at the Selden Arcade for the next ten years.
After the Selden Arcade suffered damage from an explosion in April 2015, the d’Art Center moved to the New Energy of Norfolk (NEON) Arts District. Currently across from the Chrysler Museum of Art, d’Art@Duke reopened to public in March 2016.

The University of St. Thomas invites artists’ proposals for new integrated artworks for the Iversen Center for Faith. Designed by Opus Design Build, this 23,000 square foot subterranean glass addition will create a contemporary touch to the Classical Revival architecture of the Chapel of St. Thomas Aquinas, designed by Emmanuel Masqueray in 1916. The expansion puts the original chapel on a lighted pedestal and adds expanded space and amenities to better serve the contemporary needs of the campus community. This space will centralize all campus ministry offices and serve as the spiritual heart of the campus. It will include a multi-faith meditation room, sacred arts gallery, multipurpose gathering room for receptions and events, new bride and groom facilities, and an outside amphitheater. The dedication for the Iversen Center for Faith is planned for fall 2020.

Projects may be proposed by individual artists or collectives (in which case a lead artist must be identified in the application). Organizations, architectural and engineering firms, design firms, galleries, and public art consultants are not eligible. This call is open to all artists in the United States who are at least 18 years of age. Artists with in-depth knowledge of sacred/spiritual/religious backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Iversen Center For Faith Artist Benefits
The artist or selected collective will receive a one-time total fee of $15,000, payable in installments outlined in the written commission agreement for the project. The artwork will be on display to the campus community and the public. Strong community relationships are a priority for St. Thomas. Neighbors are as much a part of the campus as the students, staff, and faculty.
Every year St. Thomas holds an annual Sacred Arts Festival, addressing the unique relationships with the divine in an interfaith method. The selected artwork would have increased viewing during this week of events. Ideally, it will represent the diversity of the campus and not solely the Catholic mission on which the University was established.

Kitsap Arts and Crafts announces a call for artists inclucing 2D, 3D, and photography, for the Kingston Arts Festival 2019. This is the 60th anniversary for this fine art show. There are generous awards and a suitable judge for each category (a professional photographer, museum curator, and established 3D artist). The show is up for four days at the community center. This community center in downtown Kingston, WA, includes the library, Boys & Girls Club, and senior center. The show opening is on Thursday, July 25th. It features live music, silent auction, appetizers, wine, and the award presentations for adult and student artists.

The Kingston Arts Festival 2019 best of show prize is $1,000.00. Award winners are invited to show their work for the month of August in the grand hallway. Visitors to the library, gym, senior center, or the myriad activities and community meetings that are held will walk past the art in the lobby. The easy walk (10 min. or 3 min. drive) from the Kingston/Edmonds ferry is a plus for the Seattle area visitors. There is a new passenger only boat that goes directly from Kingston to downtown Seattle. Advertising focuses on Seattle and surrounding counties since they have easy and scenic access by boat.
Social Equity
Kitsap believes that kids can’t envision making art without seeing what artists can do. Showing the art in the lobby of the community center enables kids and adults, who wouldn’t necessarily be exposed to fine art, to pause and talk about it.

Artisan Alliance at Wishing Spring announces a call for artists for the Bella Vista Arts and Crafts Festival 2019 where vendors sell one hundred percent, handmade, high-quality goods. Over 40,000 shoppers attend. Northwest Arkansas is home to Walmart, Tyson, and the vendor companies that come with them. Shoppers come eager to spend money. The third weekend in October is Festival Weekend in Northwest Arkansas. Bella Vista Arts And Crafts Festival 2019 attracts tourists from every state in the union and into Canada.
Many community organizations come together to provide services that make the festival special. Free parking, large item pick up, and roaming ambassadors ensure vendors and shoppers have everything they need for a wonderful weekend. All positions staffed by non-profit volunteers from a dozen local organizations.
The Festival is sponsored by the Artisan Alliance at Wishing Spring. Nearly 90 percent of profits go to art scholarships for college students, block grants for elementary school art supplies, support for the Wishing Spring Gallery (a place for artisans to sell their work all year, staffed fully by volunteers), and the Clay Studio (a new Alliance endeavor to teach pottery to all interested). Even the festival director and staff are volunteers. Hundreds of people devote hundreds of donated hours every year to continue these missions. The other ten percent of profits go straight to community organizations.

Washington Printmakers Gallery announces a call for artists for the Small Works Exhibition. Artwork submissions: hand-pulled prints, screen prints, digital prints, photographs, and three-dimensional work including artist books with print components completed within the past two years. Image may be no larger than 100 square inches with framed size of 256 square inches or less. 3D works are limited to 250 cubic inches. Open to artists 18 years and older, nationwide.

Founded by local artists in 1985, Washington Printmakers Gallery has long been the DC metro area’s primary source for contemporary fine art prints. It has a membership of exceptional local and national printmakers, photographers, and book artists. The gallery has a full calendar of juried shows, group, and a solo exhibitions.
