[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Primary Colors, an online and gallery photography exhibition.

Red, yellow, and blue balloons were the trademark of Wonder Bread for 1950’s TV kids. They are also the three basic paint colors an artist needs. Mixed together, you can create a world of color. Each color stands out on its own as an important visual element.

Urban Suburban Rural (Online Photography Exhibition) – Call For Artists

[Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Urban Suburban Rural, an online photography exhibition.

Urban, suburban, and rural are life choices, whether for living or visiting. What about these locales caught your eye? Was it the skyline, parked cars, or lights of the theater in the Urban Landscape? Alternatively, did you capture the bar-b-q in a suburban backyard. Maybe it was the geometry of a street of well-groomed front yards, a strip mall, or other image representative of the suburban scene. Finally, were you caught up in the imagery of rural impressions – the hills, dales, cows, horses, white farm fences, or rusted cars on front lawns?

Send your interpretations of rural impressions, suburban scenes, and urban landscapes. Lots to see, lots to photograph.

  • Partridge in a pear tree
  • Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
  • I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree

There are references to trees in music, literature, and proverbs. Trees are an iconic visual as a standalone item, next to a house, in a children’s drawing, or in groups of every size from oases to huge forests.

Open to any photographers worldwide of any age, amateurs or professional.

In the forest and jungle, trees create entire environments. Standing alone on hillsides, they create lovely shadows. Trees can be tall and straight like a winter pine or bend in the wind. Limbs and branches create wonderful patterns against the sky. A tree will support a tire swing for a child on a hot day, provide sturdy posts to tie up the pet pup or hold a hammock off the ground, and support a backyard laundry line. In winter, snow covered trees create beautiful landscapes.

NYC4PA gives photographers worldwide an opportunity to participate in themed calls for photographers. Each call offered has a different theme and 50 images win. The prizes total $3000. There is a grand prize, 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 20 juror’s selections, and 20 honorable mentions. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. A professional photographer, gallery owner, or photography teacher is the juror.

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

[Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Abstract, an online photography competition. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms, and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 7 Mar 2021

The early days of photography centered on true to life imagery, i.e. family portraits, images of streets, towns, and mansions. Over time, photographers expanded their vision to more moody images, ultimately to where photography is today – an all encompassing art form generated by camera and lens and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts.

This call is about the abstracts – those images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, and so forth. It doesn’t matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations, or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it. They all work. As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

The prizes total $3000 and have a grand prize, 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes – 20 juror’s selections and 20 honorable mentions. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. The call is open to any photographers worldwide and of any age, amateurs or professional. A professional photographer, gallery owner, or photography teacher is the juror.

As did Cartier-Bresson, Frank, Meyerowitz, Arbus, Evans, and the list of accomplished street photographers goes on. Their work captured a special essence of life, not posed, not set up but there in the streets, yards, avenues, and porches we pass every day. Compelling images surround us as we walk or ride in the streets of our lives.
