Old Courthouse Arts Center announces a call for artists for Real People 2019, a national juried fine art exhibition celebrating the arts through faces and figures. Submitted work must depict the human form or face in some manner that is recognizable. Real People made its debut in 2000 at the Old Courthouse Arts Center in Woodstock, Illinois, located outside of Chicago, Illinois.

The Real People exhibition has become a much-anticipated area event which enjoys excellent media coverage and exposure. Works previously shown at the Old Courthouse Arts Center are not eligible for entry.
Artists will be notified by Sunday July 14th. There is a $40 fee to apply. Artists may submit up to three images for consideration. There is a $10 discount available to artists who applied to either Real People 2018 or Women’s Works 2019. Email realpeople2019@naac4art.org to receive a discount code.
The Old Courthouse Arts Center is very excited to have Joyce Polance as the Judge for this year’s show. Joyce Polance is primarily known for her figurative oil paintings – both expressionistic portraits and large, painterly groups of nude women which explore emotion and relationships. Polance has exhibited internationally and is the recipient of multiple grants and awards including six Chicago CAAP grants, a George Sugarman Foundation grant, two Judith Dawn Memorial grants, and a Cliff Dwellers Artist in Residence award.
The exhibit will run from Wednesday, August 21st through Saturday, September 28th, including an artists’ reception gala on Saturday September 14.
Real People 2019 Awards
Cash prizes totaling $1,500.00 for the First, Second, Third Place, Gallery Award, and Three Artistic Merit Awards. In addition, the online artist management platform Biafarin, has donated 2 Gold one year memberships and 2 Blue one year memberships as awards.
About the Old Courthouse Arts Center
The Old Courthouse Arts Center was built in the 1860s. It is on the national registry of historic buildings. The entire second floor has been converted into an arts center, which houses four separate gallery spaces. The Old Courthouse Arts Center runs 30 shows each year in the space, with new shows opening on average every two weeks. This brings in a constant flow of repeat visitors from the area and a broader audience for gala openings. The Old Courthouse Arts Center has been operating for 29 years. It is run by the Northwest Area Arts Council which has been operating in the area for over 30 years.

Social equity has been a big influence on the kind of art that BWAC likes to promote in their shows. They support the art of the mentally challenged and emerging artists. About Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition
BWAC’s 8,000 square foot gallery is in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. The vista of New York Harbor, spanning the Statue of Liberty to the Verrazano Bridge, is one of the best in the city. Gallery-goers enjoy the nearby restaurants, bars, IKEA, and Fairway Market.
For over 20 years, BWAC has provided support for musicians and performers, offering performance based opportunities to participate as a major feature of opening receptions and specially themed exhibitions. Performances complement ongoing programming. The art exhibitions and performances are free and open to the public.

Kitsap Arts and Crafts announces a call for artists inclucing 2D, 3D, and photography, for the Kingston Arts Festival 2019. This is the 60th anniversary for this fine art show. There are generous awards and a suitable judge for each category (a professional photographer, museum curator, and established 3D artist). The show is up for four days at the community center. This community center in downtown Kingston, WA, includes the library, Boys & Girls Club, and senior center. The show opening is on Thursday, July 25th. It features live music, silent auction, appetizers, wine, and the award presentations for adult and student artists.

The Kingston Arts Festival 2019 best of show prize is $1,000.00. Award winners are invited to show their work for the month of August in the grand hallway. Visitors to the library, gym, senior center, or the myriad activities and community meetings that are held will walk past the art in the lobby. The easy walk (10 min. or 3 min. drive) from the Kingston/Edmonds ferry is a plus for the Seattle area visitors. There is a new passenger only boat that goes directly from Kingston to downtown Seattle. Advertising focuses on Seattle and surrounding counties since they have easy and scenic access by boat.
Social Equity
Kitsap believes that kids can’t envision making art without seeing what artists can do. Showing the art in the lobby of the community center enables kids and adults, who wouldn’t necessarily be exposed to fine art, to pause and talk about it.

Kitsap Arts and Crafts was established in 1959. In that time, they have given away 195 new and college art scholarships to local students. Kitsap is a non-profit with a mission to serve they community by presenting art, live local music, crafts, beer, and fun. They actively try to engage student participation at every age. The Paseo Water/Culture 2019 call is seeking artists to bring visibility to Northern New Mexico’s water culture and issues. Working with artists, Paseo wishes to create more inclusive and imaginative planning processes. They provide benefits to the community through artistic installations, designs, and educational opportunities. Paseo seeks proposals for installations to creatively expand public knowledge and appreciation of the acequia networks downtown Taos, NM. Selected art activations will vary in media, scale, and programming.

The goal is to highlight the acequia network for the benefit of the local community and wider audience of visitors traversing the downtown. These installations will be featured at the Paseo 2019 festival, September 13th and 14th, with the opportunity for pre- and post-installation capacities. All installations will be considered as an implementation for permanent installations.
Paseo will work closely with a number of partners to implement the Water/Culture 2019 including the Town of Taos, the Acequia Madre de Rio Pueblo, The Taos Valley Acequia Association, The NM Acequia Association, The Arts and Cultural District, Taos Mainstreet, The Taos Gallery Association, Taos Art Council, and a number of educational institutions and local businesses.
Local acequia and cultural leaders have become increasingly aware of and engaged in the water issues facing Taos. There is tremendous opportunity to utilize arts and culture strategies to advance sustainable, integrated, and inclusive management of the community’s water resources. As creative thinkers and doers, artists can be powerful partners to water leaders. Together, they re-imagine traditional approaches to water planning and management and connect with communities in new ways.
About Paseo
The Paseo is a festival dedicated to bringing the art of installation, performance, and projection to the streets of Taos, New Mexico. This two-day outdoor event, set in the high desert of Taos, New Mexico, is in its sixth year. It is scheduled for Friday and Saturday evening, September 13rd and 14th, 2019.
The Paseo seeks work that is immersive, participatory, and/or will make a dynamic impact within the Taos Historic District during this evening festival. The event is scheduled to start at sunset and runs to 11pm. Paseo 2018 brought over 6,000 people to the streets of Taos to experience this annual celebration.

Capture the softness of light at dawn and dusk. Take long exposures of the moon and stars in the sky. Create night photos of lit office buildings, headlights in motion, streets, and houses. Find a wonderful subject where a black night sky provides a dramatic background. First and last peeks of sunlight can provide some amazing opportunities as well.
The total prizes for Dusk To Dawn 2019 is $3000. There is a grand prize, three first prizes, three second prizes, three third prizes, 15 juror’s selections, and 20 honorable mentions. Each of the first 25 winners have an opportunity to exhibit in a New York City gallery, the Jadite Gallery in Hell’s Kitchen. The exhibit runs for two weeks. In addition, all 45 winners are posted in a gallery on the New York Center for Photographic Art website and are included in an exhibition catalog. A professional photographer is the juror.

This renowned, innovative and high-profile Prize recognizes how contemporary artists embrace the art of the past. More recently, the Young Masters Maylis Grand Ceramics Prize was developed to celebrate excellence in contemporary ceramics. Young Masters tours continuously throughout the year. Situated on North Virginia Street between 4th and 6th streets in Reno, the event will be open on Friday 4 – 8 pm, Saturday from 10 am till 8 pm, and Sunday from 10 am till 5 pm. Admission and parking are free to the public. A variety of local food trucks and wine and beer concession will be available.
This event is open to all media of original fine art and fine craft. All work will be juried. Categories will be limited. Only original hand-made works are accepted. Commercially or mass-produced items are not eligible. There will be no buy/sell items in the show. Participants must provide their own display. If used, canopy must be white. It will be securely attached to the ground in case of unexpected high winds.
Booth fees are $125.00 for a 10’ x 10’ or $200.00 for 10’ x 20’ space, corners (if available) are an additional $25, plus 10% commission on all sales.
Submit four images of your work, one image of your display, and a current biography. If accepted, give permission for photos and biography to be used for publicity. Confirmation status will be sent via email.

About Mills Pond Gallery
Since 1978, the council has made its home in the historic Mills Pond House. Occupied by the prosperous Mills family (early settlers of the Town of Smithtown) until 1976. This area is a rare survival of an agricultural hamlet once common on Long Iland. William Wickham Mills inherited the family land and began to construct the Mills Pond House in 1838. This Greek Revival style home is the earliest documented architect-designed house in the area.
The Mills Pond Gallery strives to promote an active process of exploration involving creativity and the arts, providing inspiring and enjoyable opportunities for visitors to explore different points of view, challenge preconceptions and prejudices, and foster critical thinking.
