The winning photographs will be featured in an online exhibition and across social media platforms, as well as published in the exhibition catalogue (available to purchase), the gallery’s YouTube channel, and promotion of the exhibition and the gallery.

This exhibition seeks to celebrate the diverse and innovative ways that contemporary artists harness the versatility of wood as a medium for artistic expression.
From utilizing traditional woodworking techniques (carving, turning, whittling, inlay, joinery, steam-bending) for furniture making and sculpture, to two dimensional working methods like wood burning and avant-garde installations fabricated with CNC machines and laser cutters, this exhibition aims to showcase all the creative ways artists engage with and manipulate wood to convey their narratives. The artwork for Timber: Contemporary Woodcraft must feature wood as a primary medium. Mixed-media artworks are welcome, but wood must be a primary element. 2-D and 3-D artwork will be considered. Indoor and outdoor installations will be considered. All artwork must be done within the last four years. Artists must be 18 years or older. Artists must be living and working in the United States or Canada.

Annmarie is a Smithsonian Affiliate located in scenic Solomons, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. Since 1992, Annmarie has captivated visitors of all ages with its natural setting and exceptional programs and events.
Timber: Contemporary Woodcraft – Artist Benefits
This juried exhibition will feature roughly 50-70 works of art in our beautiful 1,200 sq.ft., marble-floored gallery. Selected artist will benefit from an array of supporting materials. Each artist will receive a complementary social media graphic. Artists will be featured in a professionally made digital catalogue featuring an individual page for each artist, as well as shots from the gallery and juror information.
Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center takes a 40% commission on all gallery sales. This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center, from October 11, 2024, to January 20, 2025.

Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center is located in scenic Solomons, Maryland, where the Patuxent River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The sculpture garden features a shady walking path that meanders through the woods past permanent and loaned sculpture, including over thirty works on loan from the Smithsonian Institution and the National Gallery of Art. Artists in the collection include: Antonio Tobias Mendez, Barbara Hepworth, Cesar, Robert Engman, Jean Arp, Kenneth Snelson and Fransisco Zuniga. Young guests can frolic in the Fairy Lolly Creative Play Space and explore the many trails, including the Tree-mendous Trail.
The award-winning Arts Building includes rotating exhibition space, the Nature Nook, the artLAB Creative Reuse Studio, the Annmarie Gift Shop, and lovely wrap around patios. Annmarie presents a variety of popular annual festivals, rotating exhibitions, family activities, and creative public programs. Every year KIRA awards 6 artists with a multi-week residency. - Artists are required to host public teaching sessions with students or seniors.

The incredible location and the length of the KIRA residency provides the perfect setting for an artist to settle in, hunker down and get to work. The mansion that houses the artists during their stay is vast and comfortable. The large room where I stayed featured an en suite and views of the ocean. With acres of garden the artists have access to and the warm and welcoming town of St Andrew’s, as well as the natural beauty of New Brunswick and the multitude of parks, hiking trails, ocean and history of the area, there was no shortage of inspiration. There was also a private studio where I was free to settle in and make my own for making art for an entire month. I looked forward to the daily chef-cooked meal to attend with the other artists. It was a chance to meet international artists and allow the conversation to flow. With this meal as the only formal structure, the day was mine to create! After participating in many artist residencies both internationally and in the US (where I live), I found KIRA to be a highlight of my career. Everything about KIRA is topnotch. Set your sights on holiday shoppers, as the exhibit will coincide with Annmarie’s annual Ornament Show, as well as everyone’s favorite festive event, Annmarie Garden in Lights! Attendance during the holiday season is more than 35,000 guests!

All media will be considered, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, glass, fiber, digital, photography, and mixed media. Price of works cannot exceed $300. Artworks do not have to be holiday themed.
This is a show and sale style exhibit, meaning artworks will be removed as they sell. Artists will be contacted upon sale of work and invited to replace the sold piece with another artwork. Annmarie retains a 35% commission on all works sold.
Holiday Gift Show and Sale Artists will benefit heavily from reduced commission fees (35%), extended gallery hours (10am-9pm), as well as increased foot traffic. This show will be installed in a spacious main gallery and will run concurrently with the annual lights festival. The holiday season includes other small events such as a model train exhibition, a Lego exhibition, food trucks, and pictures with Santa. The timing for this exhibition is advantageous, seeing as it is during the holiday shopping season.

Submit your work to the NATO mural competition – an opportunity to showcase your talent and artistic vision of the future. This is NATO’s 2nd mural competition. In January 2024, NATO unveiled its first public mural, created by street artists in Vilnius, Lithuania, to celebrate the summit held in the city in 2023 and symbolise NATO’s collective defence mission.
The winner of this year’s NATO’s mural competition will get to work with a Washington, DC, street artist to develop their artwork. The design will be featured as a permanent mural on a wall in Washington, DC.
Additionally, top artworks from this year’s mural competition will be displayed at an exhibition at the 2024 NATO Summit venue in Washington, DC.
