[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Arts and Cultural Heritage Division (ACHD) of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s Department of Parks and Recreation invites individual artists and artist teams to submit applications for exterior sculptural artwork to be installed on a temporary basis at the Montpelier Arts Center in Laurel, Maryland. ACHD is seeking existing sculptural works that fit the criteria described in this solicitation, rather than design and fabrication of new work.
The selected artwork will be placed on a concrete pad sited on a lawn area at the center of the circular driveway directly in front of the entry to the Art Center and grounds leading to Montpelier Mansion. Dimensions of the concrete pad measure is approximately 14 feet in diameter and 6 inches in height. Based on engineering specifications, the pad can support a variety of types and weights of sculpture.

This public art project seeks to enhance the outdoor environment of the Montpelier Arts Center and Mansion by:
- Making a significant statement that relates to the sense of place associated with the site
- Having a strong daytime and nighttime presence
- Setting a standard of excellence for future public art projects planned for Prince George’s County
- Capturing Prince George’s County’s historic and modern significance to the Greater Washington, D.C. region
The budget for the temporary art installation is $3,000 for the two-year exhibition period. Payment for the project will be made in two installments: with a deposit of $2,000 paid upon successful installation of the artwork and initiation of the project, and a final payment of $1,000 upon the successful deinstallation and completion of the project.

For a nominal fee of only £35, submit three of your artworks to The Boomer Art Prize. Each additional artwork beyond the initial three adds a cost of just £10.
Artists of any country, age, and background can apply. Submit works that have been previously exhibited or published. There are no thematic limitations. 2D works should not exceed 230×230 cm. 3D artwork (sculptures, installations) should not be bigger than 230 cm high and 150 cm wide on any side. Apply with a minimum of 3 works and a maximum of 5.

- The 50 preselected artists will be listed on the Boomer Gallery website on October 10, 2023
- The jury will meet and select the 20 winners of the competition on October 20, 2023

- Anthony Fawcett: Esteemed art critic and historian known for his extensive collaborations with globally-renowned artists. - Tabish Khan: An art critic specializing in London’s art scene, Tabish is the visual arts editor for Londonist. He regularly contributes to Culture Whisper and writes for FAD’s “What’s Wrong With Art?” series. His dedication to supporting artists is displayed in his trustee roles at ArtCan and City & Guilds London Art School.
- Constantin Cosmin: An internationally acclaimed visual artist and co-founder of Boomer Gallery. As an editor at Boomer Magazine and a featured artist on Artsy, Constantin offers a unique perspective to the panel, drawing from his extensive firsthand experience in the art world.
The Boomer Art Prize Artist Benefits
Successful applicants will receive £10,000 in cash awards and exhibition opportunities in an iconic gallery space near Tower Bridge, London.
- 1st place – £5,000 and a solo show
- 2nd place – £3,000 and inclusion in two group shows
- 3rd place – £2,000 and inclusion in one group shows
- 4th to 20th place winners – included in one of the group shows
Cash awards will be paid to the winners within 48 hours after validating the votes. All 20 winners will be contacted individually regarding exhibition dates, delivery, and other details. The solo show is planned for January 2024, but the exact dates will be mutually agreed upon between the gallery and the winner of the 1st place. The group show is scheduled for November 2023. All winners will be contacted individually at least three weeks in advance. Should any of the winners wish to attend the show in person but face visa restrictions, the gallery will provide a letter of recommendation. This letter will be stamped and signed by both the gallery and the three esteemed judges of this grand competition.

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George’s Department of Parks and Recreation invites artists (meaning both individual artists and artist teams) with interest and professional experience in creating public art and site-specific commissions, to submit qualifications for exterior public art features at the Marlow Heights Community Center.
The project includes two separate components:
- A free-standing sculptural element on the plaza which must fit within a 10’x10’ area and not to exceed 18’ in height. The selected artist for the sculptural element will design, fabricate, and install the art feature, which may be glass, metal, stone, concrete, wood, mixed media, or lighting suitable for a low-maintenance exterior application.
- A functional bench enhanced by mosaic elements. Individual artists or artist teams will be selected to develop a proposal for the mosaic application to the bench. The foundation for the bench will be fabricated and installed by the project’s construction contractors and thus require close coordination with the Design/Construction Team members.

While there is no specific requirement regarding theme or subject matter, the artworks for the Marlow Heights Community Center should have the potential for becoming landmark identifiers for the surrounding community, and be suitable for display at a family friendly facility.
Artists may submit qualifications for either or both projects; however, artist candidates will be potentially selected as a finalist to execute only one of the projects. The selected artist candidates will be invited to develop and present their proposal to the Marlow Heights Design/Construction Team and community stakeholders. A stipend of $2,000 will be paid for the development of artist project proposals.
- Art Opportunity #1 – Free Standing Artwork. Budget: $150,000
- Art Opportunity #2 – Mosaic Application to Bench. Budget: $80,000

The juried exhibition takes place annually at the Emporium Center and Dogwood Arts Gallery in Downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. An independent juror with significant ties to local, regional, and national creative culture reviews each application, selects the participants, and awards over $2,000 to participating artists.
New This Year: Dogwood Arts is expanding the Dogwood Regional Art Exhibition to include additional space for installations in the Dogwood Arts Gallery (just down the street from the Emporium Center). This may include large-scale sculptural work and/or site-specific installations of any kind. There will be a materials stipend up to $700 (to be reimbursed with receipts) based on scale and level of involvement.

There are three ways for artists to participate:
- Art Exhibit and Competition Inside: Enter up to 3 pieces of artwork into the exhibit held inside The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center. Artwork will be entered into a competition where a qualified judge will select the most creative and skilled work. Prizes totaling $1,500 will be awarded in various categories.
- Artist Market Booth Outside: Register for an outdoor (10 x 10) booth to sell artwork. No commission on sales. Artists must supply their own tent and set up. Not eligible for prizes.
- Do Both: Enter up to 3 pieces of artwork into the exhibit AND sell artwork in the Artist Market. Artists keep all proceeds from sales in the Exhibit and Artists Market.
The TCA has over 2,500 followers on Facebook. They partner with many local organizations to promote and participate in the event including Tifton Tourism, the Tifton-Tift County Public Library, YMCA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and Kiwanis. A section of the festival is devoted to kids in the Arts Circus, which brings out the entire family. There will be food trucks at the event Friday and Saturday.

Tifton Council for the Arts is located in South Georgia, approximately 2.5 hours South of Atlanta on I-75. TCA is housed in The Syd Blackmarr Arts Center (The Syd), a 120-year-old architectural treasure that was originally the Methodist Church. The building was the first brick church built in the community. It brought a refined elegance at the turn of the century to the growing rural town.
Today “The Syd” is operated by the Tifton Council for the Arts Board of Directors and Volunteer Guild. It serves as a cultural anchor for downtown Tifton and provides regular arts, education, and cultural programming to people of all ages and interests.

The festival is open to seasoned show veterans to first-timers inside.
Friends of the Arboretum can’t wait to share all the exciting changes that they have made to the 28th annual Art in the Arboretum Festival including new prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place artwork; the new limited edition VIP ticket program for collectors; and advertising partners/sponsors.
There are over 1,800 Friends of the Arboretum members who have free admission to the event and another 2,000+ paying attendees each year.

The Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum (i.e. The Friends) was created as a non-profit, 501 c (3) fund raising organization in 1986. Since then, it has provided financial support to the New Hanover County Arboretum for the maintenance of its gardens and their improvement. Over the years, it has supported special projects like the creation of the Contemplation Garden, improvements to the Children’s Garden (which will be completed this year), and the educational programs of Extension.
