About Innovate Grant

Innovate Grant supports artists and photographers through quarterly grants. They believe that new ideas come from sparks of inspiration and aim to provide just that, access to small and mighty bursts of financial support so that you can focus on making your important and innovative work.

Innovate Grant was created out of the frustration of applying to grants with time-consuming requirements. These lengthy applications took valuable time and energy away from making new work. Countless hours were sacrificed in either writing artist statements, crafting project proposals, or getting letters of recommendation. Time is one of the most valuable components to fostering creativity and innovation. Their aim is to provide the time you need to be fully immersed in your ideas and in creating your work. Keeping the grant process simple enables Innovate Grant to continue to support you on your important journey of creation, inspiration, and innovation.

Threads That Bind (Brooklyn, NY) – Call For Artists

Threads That Bind (Brooklyn, NY) – Call For Artists

The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) announces a call for artists for Threads That Bind: When The Fabric Of Social Culture Unravels. This national juried show is for artists working in traditional and/or contemporary approaches to fiber. Submissions must use fiber materials and/or processes (weaving, knitting, spinning, rug-making, embroidery, crochet, braiding, beading, needlepoint, cross-stitch, dyeing, sewing) as a primary component of the work. The final form of submitted artwork may be a sculpture, photograph, performance or video, or wearable or decorative art or fashion, as well as an embroidered, woven, crocheted, or dyed or knitted wall-hung or free-standing piece. Large-scale work up to 96″ in any direction is welcome.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 15 Aug 2021

Questions to ask yourself about your work when making a submission:

  • How have you embraced fiber processes during our sustained period of forced social isolation?
  • Does fiber making provide comfort, or do you use fiber processes to push against the boundaries of social constraints and/or civil and social unrest?
  • What does fiber making in the 21st century mean to you, and why do you choose these processes and materials instead of or in addition to more “traditional” art-making media?

In addition to images of up to 3 artworks, please write 1-3 sentences answering one of the above 3 questions.

BWAC promotes emerging artists. Threads That Bind will highlight fiber artists who have not been able to show their work, especially due to the Covid pandemic. Shows are free, open to the public, and well-attended. BWAC offers participating artists the opportunity to show their work through their online Artsy gallery and BWAC website platforms. Any artist can make arrangements to host an artist talk, invite friends and colleagues to the space, and take advantage of all the networking opportunities with BWAC.

About Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition

BWAC’s 8,000 square foot gallery is in a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. The vista of New York Harbor, spanning the Statue of Liberty to the Verrazano Bridge, is one of the best in the city. Gallery-goers enjoy the nearby restaurants, bars, IKEA, and Fairway Market.

For over 20 years, BWAC has provided support for musicians and performers, offering performance based opportunities to participate as a major feature of opening receptions and specially themed exhibitions. Performances complement ongoing programming. The art exhibitions and performances are free and open to the public.

Modern Art encompasses the art from the Impressionists (around 1880) up until the 1970’s. Contemporary Art encompasses the art from the 1970’s to present.

They find and represent artists with unique talent and ideas, a strong vision, and compelling style. Age or education are not the most important criteria. They are more interested in authenticity, perseverance, professionalism, and outstanding artworks – no matter the medium.

BBA Gallery began as an artist-run project space in 2015. Their ethos has been clear. Seek out talented and passionate artists and give them all the nurture they need whether they’re emerging or mid-career.

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

Abstract Photography Competition (Online)- Call For Artists

[Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Abstract, an online photography competition. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms, and gestural marks to achieve its effect.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 7 Mar 2021

The early days of photography centered on true to life imagery, i.e. family portraits, images of streets, towns, and mansions. Over time, photographers expanded their vision to more moody images, ultimately to where photography is today – an all encompassing art form generated by camera and lens and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts.

This call is about the abstracts – those images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, and so forth. It doesn’t matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations, or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it. They all work. As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

The prizes total $3000 and have a grand prize, 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes – 20 juror’s selections and 20 honorable mentions. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. The call is open to any photographers worldwide and of any age, amateurs or professional. A professional photographer, gallery owner, or photography teacher is the juror.

About New York Center for Photographic Art
