They find and represent artists with unique talent and ideas, a strong vision, and compelling style. Age or education are not the most important criteria. The Curious Loop Educational Residency (Perleberg, Germany) – Call For Artists

The Curious Loop Educational Residency (Perleberg, Germany) – Call For Artists

The Field Kitchen Academy announces a call for artists for The Curious Loop, their interdisciplinary, educational residency programme that gathers artists/ creative minds, a resident chef, and prominent experts from different fields together around a kitchen table through mind-opening acts and actions. On its second edition, a total of 11 interdisciplinary residents will be selected to join the upcoming Field Kitchen Academy in its three modules. Curated by Ece Pazarbaşı, this year, under the title of The Curious Loop, the Field Kitchen Academy will use the notion of loops-in-sound as a gateway to other concepts of repetition, offering a variety of individual and collective experiences.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 22 Jun 2020

Loops represent a time that is suspended, which is a compressed source of the past, present, and the future. The loop oscillates between the known and the unknown. As for the viewer and listener, it could unfold to a future of known (as it repeats the same material over and over again), but it may relate to an unknown (as surprises are always welcome). One never knows if the loop will be broken with an unknown sound or visual component – no matter how well defined and repeated the loop has developed in the past. If one cannot step into the same river twice and one opens to perception with all senses, what differences can we find in each loop?

Composed of three intertwined modules that allow for different durations in the residency, the program is open to application from all disciplines and all walks of life. The selected residents will have the opportunity of pursuing processes of experimentation, discussion, trial and error, the progression of knowledge, and know-how in working sessions during the first 3 weeks. The last half week will be the ‘simmering’ period where the residents are expected to do nothing but only listening.

The outcome of the Field Kitchen Academy’s three working sessions will be presented as part of The Curious Loop Public Program. The Public Program is partially supported by Musikfonds and Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.

Location: Gutshaus Wusten-Buchholz, Perleberg, Germany. Approximately 2 hours away from Berlin. Selected participants will be announced by 6 July 2020.

Educational Residency Leaders

  • Bill Fontana (composer and video artist)
  • Hans Peter Kuhn (sound and visual artist)
  • Sebastian Mullaert A.k.a Minilogue (producer and DJ)
  • Ove Holmqvist (sound artist)
  • Hans Rosenström (sound artist)
  • Steffi Weismann (sound artist)
  • Ji Woo and Sun Woo (Zen Masters)
  • Prof. Dr. Ursula Koch (Neurophysiologist)

Chef in Residence: Emrah Tas

Selection committee: Peter Cusack, Ali M. Demirel, Juliana Hodkinson, Mario Asef, and Ece Pazarbaşı.

The Curious Loop Artist Benefits

The three intertwined modules allow for different durations in the residency. The participation fee covers shared room for two people for the entire period, 3 plant based meals (breakfast, lunch, dinners, and tea time snacks), and the program fee for the entire working sessions and participation in the public program. With an inter-disciplinary approach, the Field Kitchen Academy invites six experts of academics and field practitioners to meet 10 carefully selected artists/ creative minds and a resident cook in a concentrated environment with health regulations.

About Field Kitchen Academy

Field Kitchen Academy is a mobile project of GROUND e.V., that brings artists and creative minds together with experts around interdisciplinary topics and food. It aims at transcending the existing borders between research and practice, beyond forms and formats with innovative tools, and experiences on holistic knowing and thinking. It aims at stimulating new areas and formats of investigations. Programs support artistic practice and creative thinking in a lab format. The three pillars of the Field Kitchen Academy:

field |fiːld|
noun
Each edition of Field Kitchen Academy is uses the residency period as a process for a field research on a particularly selected concept. It chooses to take place in idyllic or characteristically unique urban areas to attain an encapsulated focus of its participants.

kitchen |ˈkɪtʃɪn, -tʃ(ə)n|
noun
Field Kitchen Academy acts in two dimensions. It is an educational lab for experimentation, discussion, trial and fail, progression of knowledge and creativity where heated and open debates can take place. And it is an educational residency for app. 10 participants and one resident cook. It provides a ‘simmering’ time for its residents, where they will have the opportunity to work and reflect through the knowledge they co-created with the experts.

kitchen table |ˈkɪtʃɪn, -tʃ(ə)n| |ˈteɪb(ə)l|
noun
At the Field Kitchen Academy, the kitchen table is a symbol for uniting and overcoming the hierarchies of conventional education. It stands out for a table of equity and experience exchange platform. Smarts with street smarts share their wisdom with the residents of the programme.

Ten Songs For A Lar (Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK) – Call For Artists

Ten Songs For A Lar (Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK) – Call For Artists

The Kent Medway Museums National Portfolio Organisation Partnership (KMM NPO) are seeking proposals from sound artists to create new audio artworks to be accessioned as permanent artefacts within the museum collections. ‘Ten Songs for a Lar’ is an ambitious new commission searching for multiple audio interpretations of a bronze ‘Lar’ – a household god figurine (dated circa. 200AD) held in the collections at The Guildhall Museum, Rochester, UK.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 15 Jun 2020

This commission is part of the KMM NPO’s ambition to produce artworks that encourage audiences to think about ‘What is collecting? What makes a display? Which stories are being told at museums and how?’ Museum objects, often grouped in predefined, restricted spaces sit silently, sparsely captioned, awaiting the attention of further, deeper, exploration. Museums do not just collect, care, and exhibit objects; they categorise, contextualise, and interpret objects to fulfill their own, and their intended audiences, requirements. The many stories behind these often human made objects, and the emotive connections they intend to make, can therefore become difficult to obtain.

The KMM NPO is looking to appoint 10 musicians or artists (from across the globe) working with sound to create individual, thought provoking, emotive works to interpret a Lar figurine – an inherently ‘traditional’ museum object. Without the need for images, physical presence, and perhaps even words, we want to know: ‘what does this object say to you, and what stories do you wish to give voice to, and bring to life, through music and sound?’.

Ten Songs For A Lar: Benefits

Successful artists will receive £1,000 per selected track (inclusive of VAT).

Inspired by the Guildhall Lar, the commission will comprise of 10 separate audio responses. The 10 audio responses will:

  • Become permanent digital artefacts accessioned (added to) the collections of the NPO partners
  • Made into a physical, limited-edition vinyl record to be deposited in each of the museums partners collections
  • Be promoted individually and as a group of audio tracks (album)
  • Exhibited together as part of a touring exhibition/display
  • Through the process of this commission the KMM NPO also intends to achieve broader aims of:
  • Showing and interpreting collections in new and exciting ways
  • Reaching new, and broader audiences
  • Extend the cultural offering at each of the partner organisations
  • Promote a diverse and varied point of view in response to traditional museum items
  • Continue to challenge the boundaries of commissioning within museums by embracing non-physical, non-visual, creative outputs
  • Maximise the potential of those working from home, via digital platforms and the ability to work and share creativity within the current climate
  • Lead innovatively, and with flexibility – supporting and showcase artist otherwise unable to currently work and develop their practice

About The Kent Medway Museums National Portfolio Organisation Partnership

The KMM NPO is a group of four museums (The Historic Dockyard Chatham, Canterbury Museums & Galleries, Guildhall Museum Rochester and Tunbridge Wells Museum & Gallery) funded by Arts Council England (ACE) to work together to deliver excellence in the use of collections and to inspire learning, creativity, and well-being to existing and new audiences in their communities.

Reclaim Award 2020 (Cologne, Germany) – Call For Artists

Reclaim Award 2020 (Cologne, Germany) – Call For Artists

The Reclaim Kollektiv announces a call for artists for the Reclaim Award 2020. Ads out, art in! Reclaim your place in public space. Billboards become cultural conceptual surfaces, artistic canvases, or photographic landscapes. The city a public museum. Reclaim replaces advertising on large surfaces with your art. With the award, make a contribution towards culturally enhancing the public space. Make Cologne’s urban profile more attractive. Display billboards that stimulate, illustrate diversity and difference, and open up conceptual spaces. Easily perceivable, public, and for everyone!

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 26 Apr 2020

Entry fee: 1 entry: 25€ / 2 entries: 40€ / 3 entries: 50€.

Where usually cruises, cars, or detergents find large places to shine, there will now be art. 40 billboards become exhibition surfaces.

This year, the Reclaim Kollektiv holds the second Reclaim Award in Cologne. For the debut in 2019, 551 artists from 29 countries applied to redesign 25 billboards in urban areas of Cologne. Since this went beyond any intended scope, there will be already 40 large-scale billboards to show art in 2020.

Reclaim grows. A plus of 15 surfaces means even more radiance for the artpieces, even more visibility for the artists. The stage is ready, Cologne as public museum. Perception in public space is the highest: large-scale billboards on bustling streets, busy train stations, and in urban, alternative neighbourhoods of Cologne.

The winners will exhibit their works in the form of 18/1 posters on billboards rented in a central location, for the duration of 10 days. Artists from all fields and all countries are welcome to participate in the competition.

About Reclaim Kollektiv

The Reclaim Kollektiv consists of three business partners and friends. Odo Hans is a freelance artist and initiator of the Reclaim Award. Together with Tobias Handorf and Caspar Wündrich, managers of the design studio neoactio in Cologne, they founded the Kollektiv in 2019.

Last years’ debut was a great success for the trio. 551 applicants liked the idea and shared the vision. This years’ Reclaim Award grew by 15 surfaces.
