Black And White (Online Photography Competition) – Call For Artists

[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) announces a call for artists for Black and White, an online photography competition.

Photography, in its infancy, was entirely about black and white or monochrome images. Color was an after print add on. NYC4PA is focusing on one of their favorite themes, celebrating those images central to the field of photography despite the introduction of color film and the vast array of image capture and post process adjustment software.

As with all NYC4PA calls, all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

NYC4PA gives photographers worldwide an opportunity to participate in themed calls for photographers. Each call offered has a different theme and 50 images win. The prizes total $4000. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. The call is open to any photographers worldwide and of any age, amateurs or professional. Selected works will be chosen by a jury of gallery member artists. The number of pieces selected depends on the size of your work and the overall number of artists participating.

The showcase is a great way to come and experience the gallery and meet and mingle with current and prospective artists.

Piermont is an affluent and desirable place to live and visit. Cyclists from as far away as Brooklyn and day-trippers from New York City and New Jersey visit Piermont to take in the beautiful landscape, enjoy the Hudson River, shop the galleries and boutiques on Main Street and the Pier, and dine at its world-class restaurants.

“We want people to sense something special when they enter our gallery.” – Jeanne Treat-Tozer

About Piermont Flywheel Gallery

In 1992, Piermont’s first artist-run gallery opened its doors to the public. Twenty-four artists joined forces to create a cooperative gallery dedicated to exhibiting the finest work of artists living and working within the New York tri-state area. Piermont was still a relatively quiet community enjoying its lovely Hudson River setting.

Today, the village bustles with visitors from far and wide. The Flywheel Gallery is no longer the only co-op gallery. There is another one next door and many commercial galleries.

The Flywheel; however, can boast of being there from the beginning. When this dedicated group of artists got together to create an elegant, functional, and friendly artist-run space, Jeanne Treat-Tozer, a painter and one of the gallery’s founders, explained at the time, “We want people to sense something special when they enter our gallery. We want them to feel comfortable and confident when selecting works.”

Among the more notable members of the gallery was Alan Gussow, whose untimely death in May of 1997 was a shock to the arts community worldwide.
