Passion to Perform celebrates the interconnection between performance and passion. Yamana Gold aims to award winning entrants with meaningful compensation that can positively impact each artist’s practice and encourage them to pursue their passion.

The competition is open to any person practicing art. Each artist can submit up to 2 entries. The panel of judges will initially review entries made through the online system. Following this, approximately 35 artists will be short listed. Only works that are short listed from the initial digital submission will be reviewed for final judging. Notifications and instructions on the regional collection process will be sent to the short listed artists only via email.

Passion to Perform prizes will be awarded in $USD based on a jury selection:

  • $7,000 for first prize
  • $2,500 for second prize
  • $1,500 for third prize

In addition, a fund has been established to acquire artworks from the shortlist of finalists, which will then become part of the permanent collection of Yamana Gold. Pieces of art that become part of the permanent Passion To Perform collection may be displayed in Yamana Gold’s offices, thereby visually communicating a sense of performance to employees and visitors alike.

$3,500 Artist Grants (The Hopper Prize) – Call For Artists

The Hopper Prize is open to all artists aged 18 and older working in any media. There are no restrictions on genre, subject matter, or media. Entries in all media are welcome. The Hopper Prize is committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers. All artists are encouraged to apply.

Total Awards: $11,000.00 USD for Visual Artists

  • $3,500.00 – 2 artists will each receive a $3,500 (USD) grant
  • $1,000.00 – 4 artists will each receive a $1,000 (USD) grant
  • 30 artists will have their work archived on The Hopper Prize’ website
  • A selection from the submissions will be featured on The Hopper Prize’ Instagram
  • Additional exposure will be available to winners through Journal: Insights into Contemporary Art

Jurors for the current awards are Tyler Blackwell, Associate Curator of the Blaffer Art Museum and Caitlin Julia Rubin, Associate Curator and Director of Programs of the Rose Art Museum. Jurors will select 6 artists from the open call who will each receive an unrestricted cash grant. 2 artists will win $3,500 and 4 artists will win $1,000. Grant awards are unrestricted and may be used any way the recipients choose. The jurors will also select a shortlist of 30 artists who will have their work archived on the Hopper Prize’ website.

When submitting your work, you will have the option to opt-in to be considered for possible featured posts on the Hooper Prize’ Instagram, where they currently reach an audience of over 60k. Editors will be featuring select submissions on a rolling basis prior to the application deadline.

In addition to grant awards, the shortlist, and Instagram reach, The Hopper Prize will provide a platform for exposure via the online Journal: Insights Into Contemporary Art. This digital publication gives artists a new channel to amplify their voice while providing an in-depth look at their work, practice, and background. Grant recipients and shortlisted artists will receive the opportunity to publish an interview to include any work of their choosing as a means of providing continued support beyond the open call.

[Sponsored Listing] The BARON Book Prize is an annual prize, which recognizes book projects from emerging artists and image-makers who have created projects investigating gender, sex, sexuality, and identity politics.

The Baron Book Prize 2021 is judged by an industry panel who will create a shortlist of the best submissions to decide a winner. The winner will be judged on their book’s concept and how this has influenced the rationale behind the construction of their book, outcome, and design.

Baron Book Prize Judges

  • Rut Blees Luxemburg is an artist, academic, and curator whose work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including Tate Modern, London and Centre Pompidou, Paris. Blees Luxemburg is a research fellow on the photography MA at the Royal College of Art, London and the co-founder of FILET, an exhibition space for experimental art production. In 2020, Blees Luxemburg was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society of the United Kingdom.
  • Mohammad Al-Hasani is the director of Vice Versa distribution. Based in Berlin, Vice Versa specializes in architecture, art, design, fashion, film, photography, and theory, with wide-ranging visibility for its programme. Vice Versa carries a carefully-curated list of publishers, including distribution for Baron in Europe.
  • Stephen Male began his career as the art director of i-D magazine. In 2008, he relocated to New York to become the art director of American Vogue. Male’s work has been featured in design annuals, books, and publications such as 100 Years of Magazine Covers by Steve Taylor and Neville Brody and Modern Magazine Design by William Owen. Male has been recognized with numerous awards including the coveted D&AD Pencil for best editorial art direction for i-D magazine.
  • Cinsy Tam is the assistant creative director and editor of BARON. Tam has worked on many of BARON’S book releases including books by Petra Collins and Bruce LaBruce and the BARON Prize for art and photography.

Photoshop, Nik, Topaz, Snapseed, and Distressed FX are just a few of the tools photographers can use to express their artistic vision. This call is about images where the original shot was only the beginning. Although this text focuses on digital imagery, after-processing in the darkroom works just as well.

There is a grand prize, 3 first prizes, 3 second prizes, 3 third prizes, 20 juror’s selections, and 20 honorable mentions. All 50 winners are posted in a gallery on the NYC4PA website and included in an exhibition gallery. A professional photographer, gallery owner, or photography teacher is the juror.
