Artists receive a $750 honorarium per sculpture selected and compete for up to $13,000 in cash prize awards. Each sculpture is for sale to the public. One sculpture is purchased to become a permanent part of St Joseph’s public art collection.

The historic downtown district features unique shops, restaurants, coffee houses, and clubs making it a top daytrip destination in Northwest Missouri. Brochures on the Sculpture Walk are available throughout the downtown and at the St Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau office. The Sculpture Walk brochure invites guests to vote for their favorite sculpture for the People’s Choice award.

All participating sculptors are invited to the First Walk reception and guided tour, which is always a draw for area media, local government officials, and outdoor art enthusiasts. Sculptors are invited to speak about their sculpture(s) during the First Walk.

This year-long event puts sculpture in front of area art collectors and provides the opportunity to have a sculpture become a permanent part of downtown St Joseph.

Each week, a sculpture is chosen to the Sculpture of the Week in all Allied Arts Council social media.

To make this event possible, the Allied Arts Council partners with the City of St Joseph and the St Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District.

The Park Forest Art Fair was simply amazing. I have never experienced an art fair such as this before. The attention and support given to the artists made one feel like royalty. I enjoyed the breakfast and was more than grateful for the spread that was laid before us for dinner. The award ceremony left me speechless. The permanent sculptures frame views, animate parks, streetscapes, and viewpoints.

Arts Alive Public Art Program Theme for 2023: What is home?

This is an excellent opportunity for both mid-career and emerging artists to showcase their work. Artists are invited to reflect on and interpret the theme ‘What is Home?’.

A physical space or place? A nation or region? A connection to land or landscape? A sanctuary? A memory? Recollections of layers of history told through stories or legends? Cultural roots that extend for many generations? A safe space that satisfies the longing for connection? A palatial, modest, temporary or mobile residence? A place that is rented, borrowed or owned? A safe space that satisfies the longing for belonging? A place to thrive, forgive, love, celebrate, play, share, and dream of the future? A place that is no longer there, hidden, or make-shift?

How can an idea of home be communicated through the medium of sculpture?

Arts Alive Artist Benefits

Artist’s work will have exposure to thousands of residents and visitors in this high-profile program. The municipality, local media, and Oak Bay Tourism will promote this show throughout the year.
