The Babel Masks (Online Exhibition) – Call For Artists

The Babel Masks (Online Exhibition) – Call For Artists

The Librarian of Babel has announced a virtual exhibition of original artist’s masks, The Babel Masks. The mask must perform the normal function of a medical mask – to cover and protect the nose and mouth to prevent or minimize droplets from escaping or entering. It must be physically wearable in such a way that it can perform this essential function. After meeting this requirement, the mask may be of any design, shape, or size, of any medium or media.

Click here for the application / registration

Deadline: 19 Sept 2020

Submission guidelines: Submit three JPG images of one original mask of your own design and creation which envisions the mask as a statement of fashion, ceremonial use, or everyday apparel in the year 2120.

There is no fee to submit or exhibit. Acceptance date is September 26th. This is an entirely virtual project due to COVID restrictions.

Since this is a virtual exhibition, there are no shipping, travel, insurance, or drop-off or pickup costs. This opportunity is open to artists anywhere. There is no age restriction or location limitation for applicants, nor any other restriction apart from the requirement to follow the brief, photograph your work well, and send it via internet to the exhibition as instructed by the prospectus, so the number of eligible artists is as comprehensive as it can be.

The exhibit will be online from October 2020 to May 2021.

The Babel Masks Artist Benefits

Your work will be seen and selected by respected curators and have visibility online as part of the project for six months. After that it will be permanently archived at the Librarian of Babel website. Each artist will be featured individually on social media outlets for one week. Your work, statement, and bio will be included in a color catalog, available as a print-on-demand book, ISBN marked and listed on several internet publishing outlets. Through the publisher, the book price will be deeply discounted for participating artists.

You will have the opportunity to share your work personally and meet a new coterie of artists via virtual live-streaming and live events. Your work will be archived at the Librarian of Babel website as part of an ongoing archive. You will retain all copyright and permission to your work.
