This call is open to all artists residing in the United States, and is applicable for all mediums including any form of 2D or 3D work.
The exhibition will be juried by Robert Yi. Robert currently serves as the Assistant Director, Senior Graduate and Undergraduate Academic Advisor, and Interim Director of Painting and Drawing at George Mason University’s School of Art in Fairfax, Virginia.
There will be $500 in cash prizes awarded to winners. The Our American Soul national juried show will open with a popular First Friday reception, which can draw over 200 people. There will be live music and light fare to enjoy while viewing artwork.

This exhibition seeks to inspire environmentally sustainable artmaking through found objects, creative reuse, and upcycled art. By repurposing by-products, waste materials, or unwanted objects and transforming them into something with more perceived and artistic value, artists explore environmental themes, engage in social commentary, and implore a call to action or infuse realism, emotion, or humor in their work.
Artwork in this juried show is meant to be eye-opening, engaging, thought-provoking, inspiring, poetic, and sometimes playful and optimistic. How are contemporary artists engaging with objects in a world overrun with too much stuff?

Artwork for Metamorphosis: Recycled, Repurposed, Reimagined must include a repurposed material as a primary medium. 2-D and 3-D artwork will be considered. Outdoor artwork is welcome. All artwork must be created within the last four years. Artists must be 18 years or older. This exhibition will be open to the public in the Kay Daugherty Gallery of Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center from February 9 to April 21, 2024.

Short-term paid residencies are available to artists accepted into the Metamorphosis show for this unique outdoor eco-art festival. Details about this additional opportunity will be sent upon acceptance into this gallery show.
For artists shipping works from outside the region, transportation grants are available through the Artist Accessibility Fund to help with shipping cost. Grants typically range from $75 to $200 and are awarded on a need basis. The Artist Accessibility Fund was established in loving memory of Southern Maryland artist Michael Tomassoni. By 1903, painters like Norman St Clair were visiting from San Francisco, attracted to the landscape and light only found on the coast of Laguna. Like tourists of any era, St Clair returned home with glowing reports and landscape paintings that led his artist friends to follow him south. It wasn’t long before plein air (painting outdoors) artists like William Wendt and Frank Cuprien moved to Laguna Beach. Within a few years, Laguna Beach had a permanent population of about 300 people – half of whom were artists.

Photography is all about light – its presence as well as its absence. There is an iconic photograph of Grand Central Station with streams of sunlight filling the airspace as it reflects off dust particles in the air. For photographers the time of day an image is captured can be as important as the selection of the subject itself. What may be nothing more than a snapshot at one time of day becomes an impactful image at another. Strategically placed lighting is critical in creating great portraits and late afternoon is a world of shadow and light that warms everything it touches.

Thunderbird Artists Festivals are outdoors and three days in length. Each festival consists of sensational oil paintings, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, charcoals, and mixed media. Other mediums include spectacular small, medium, and life-size bronzes; luminous glass sculptures; small, medium, and monumental sized metal creations; and fabulous batiks. There are hand thrown clay; Raku pottery and sculptures; traditional and color scratch board; hand woven baskets; inlaid wood turned bowls; unique and one of a kind jewelry; black and white and color photography; and elegant stone, copper, clay, and mixed media sculptures.
