[Side Arts Certified Sponsored Listing] Libertytown Arts Workshop announces a call for artists for Heroes and Villains, a national juried exhibition.
As children, we learned that heroes are brave and true and villains are evil and duplicitous. It was comforting to think of them as opposites, but, as we grew, the lines got blurry and who was a hero and villain sometimes wasn’t obvious. This show is all about what heroes and villains means to you. They can be nationally known or in your home. They can be corporations or movements. They can be archetypal or nuanced. Show us your personal heroes and villains. All mediums welcome.

[Sponsored Listing] LibertyTown Arts Workshop in Fredericksburg, VA, announces a call for artists for The Cube, a regional exhibition. LibertyTown wanted to try something a little bit different. They try to come up with concepts that can focus creative energy. This time they thought, what if they gave you all the same exact object and saw what you could do with it. Enter The Cube. The cube is a 4”x4” piece of wood, nothing more, nothing less.
Click here for the application / registration
Deadline: 30 Aug 2021
Fees: A non-refundable material fee must be paid for each cube. Payment may be submitted electronically via the LibertyTown website or by check delivered to LibertyTown.
How do you get your hand on a cube? Follow these simple steps:
- Register to get a cube. You will pay a $10 material fee for the cube at registration, and be asked for your email and telephone. This is so LibertyTown can remind you to come and pick up your cube.
- Come to LibertyTown starting May 15th and pick up a wooden cube. LibertyTown might have a few extras, so if you fail to register ahead of time, call and check with they and they might be able to get you one. But please register. Please.
- Use that cube to make art. You can make the cube into the art, use it to make the art, draw the cube, and/or cut the cube up. LibertyTown has zero restrictions except mayhem and foolishness. Do not harm anyone with the cube or use it for nefarious means. LibertyTown has a particular set of skills. They will find out.
- Bring the art you made with the cube/cube made into art into the gallery starting August 27th (see below for a complete list of dates) along with a small explanation of your art. Something like “I burned the cube into charcoal and used it to draw a charcoal drawing.”
- Glory in your creativity. Attend the opening in person or virtually. Share the show on social media.
