The Baron Prize For Art And Photography (International) – Call For Artists

Baron and Baroness announce a call for artists for The Baron Prize for Art and Photography, a biannual award aiming to highlight emerging artists and photographers of any gender, age, or nationality, working in any media. The prize invites emerging artists, photographers, and filmmakers to submit one work that explores Baron’s core themes – sex and sexuality and identity politics. The winner is awarded a £1000 cash prize and a selection of art and photography books worth £1000.

Each submission must contain a 500-word artist statement about the work. Contextualise your submission and explain the meaning.

The submission must consider a rationale behind the construction of the work. Evidence this in your artist statement. For example, find meaning aligned with your chosen concept about how your work is made. This should include your chosen medium, casting, subject, interiors, exteriors, and techniques.

The submission must be one work. The works original context could be from a series of works. It can be new or existing work. The submission can use any medium. For example, this could be a film still, documentation of a performance, painting, word art, or photography. The Baron Prize for Art and Photography will be judged by a transnational panel.

The winner is awarded a £1000 cash prize and a selection of art and photography books worth £1000. Your work will be shown on Baron’s digital assets and judged by a panel of industry judges.

Judges

  • Ashleigh Kane is the Arts and Culture editor of Dazed & Confused since 2014. Ashleigh has been widely recognized for her work with new photography and art talents, many of which are now creative agenda setters all over the world.
  • ​Bruce Labruce is a Canadian artist, writer, filmmaker and photographer based in Toronto. His work explores themes of sexual and interpersonal transgression against cultural norms.
  • ​Matthew Holroyd is the co-founder and creative director of Baron and Baroness.
  • Nadia Lee Cohen is a British photographer, film maker, and performance artist inspired by American and British cinema of the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Her work has been published and exhibited internationally.

About Baron and Baroness

Baron was launched in 2013 and is stocked worldwide in over 20 countries in museums such as Tate Modern and concept stores such as Dover Street Market. The publication has collaborated with artists such as Bjarne Melgard to Eva Stenram and photographers such as Harley Weir to Tyrone Lebon.

The publication is in various collections including the book collections at MoMA NYC and The LUMA Foundation.
