Reading Main Street Public Art Initiative – Call for Artists
Proposals for innovative and transformative public art in downtown Reading are now being accepted as part of the Reading Main Street Program.
Deadline: 16 Nov 2015
As the result of funding from the National Endowment for the Arts’ (NEA) Our Town program and RiverPlace Development Corporation, the Main Street Public Art Initiative is seeking proposals for artwork that will foster community interaction while building upon and shaping a sense of community identity, in addition to making downtown Reading more vibrant.
A total of $50,000 is available for this initiative. Artists may submit proposals for projects with a budget of up to $50,000. Artists should consider submitting proposals that will have a significant impact on downtown vibrancy at a reasonable cost.
Proposals will be displayed at GoggleWorks Center for the Arts from December 2015 through January 2016 for public review and comment. Finalists will be selected based on committee review and public feedback. Then, finalists will work with a team of community members and Main Street stakeholders to fully develop their proposals. Once proposals are fully developed, a final selection will be made, and artwork will be installed by August 2016.
Reading, PA is a community in desperate need of vibrancy and transformation, and the community is eager to get involved in the transformation process.
